Make Cold Steel Code 4 part of your daily carry to experience the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ll always have a truly great high performance folder when you need one.

There are very few things in life as comforting as knowing you are carrying a good knife. Cold Steel Code 4 is one hell of a sexy knife. It's very thin and razor sharp. You can easily conceal it in your pocket or jacket. It’s a knife for carrying everyday by a gentleman.

cold steel code 4 review, cold steel code 4 spear pointAdmittedly, I'm not a Cold Steel big fan. My favorite was fixed survival knives and Spyderco folding knives. I borrowed a Cold Steel Code 4 from a friend to open coconuts on a camping trip in the first time in 2009. The knife did a very good job and made me surprise! It was a decent length folder with aluminum scales and the tri-ad lock knife. It was very thin and very strong. The first feeling and its ability were good enough to let me make my decision 2 hours later. I bought one for my own uses. Wow! This knife blew me away.

What grabbed me was the combination of its silky smooth feel on opening and the thin, aluminum gripped profile. While the Cold Steel Code 4 is about a large knife, I’d like to carry it as an EDC blade. I bought Cold Steel Code 4 spear point version. It was a good looking clean knife I use for EDC when I were going out and need a non threatening looking blade with me. It fit in the pocket well and was a nice size and weight. Below are Code 4 various versions. I recomment Spear Point plain edge.

A lot of points & my choice is Plain Edge Spear Point

The largest selling point of this knife is just how thin the handle profile is. Grab the nearest disposable lighter and look at how thin the profile is. The handle is thinner than that. It's thinner than a disposable ball point. Put four quarter top to bottom and that's roughly as thick as the handle minus the pocket clip. But despite the thin profile, you never get the feeling that this is a fragile knife. The aluminum scales combined with the tri-ad lock, make this thing feel like a solid piece of metal in your hand.

Cold Steel Code 4 series feature sturdy, hard-anodized gun metal grey 6061 Aluminum handles, the unparalleled strength of our world renowned and exclusive Tri-Ad lock and high satin polished, razor sharp Japanese AUS8A blades. The AUS-8 Spear Point was hair popping sharp out of the box as are most Cold Steel Knives and the blade profile is very clean while not looking mall-ninjaish. The Cold Steel Code 4 is no shrinking violet. Again, this is a large knife. The blade is mirror polished and simply gorgeous. While the blade length is about the same as my Kershaw Blur and Spyderco Tenacious, the Code 4’s hollow ground, Lockback 3.5″ spear point is housed in a significantly larger 5″ handle. Combine that with the fact that it’s a beefy 1.75″ across the beam when closed, and you have yourself a good sized chunk of metal riding in your pocket.

My Cold Steel Code 4 is surprisingly light for its size. The big blade only weighs 4.3 oz. and feels like less. That’s probably due to cold steel code 4 review, cold steel code 4 spear pointits very thin profile. They created an ultra-thin, ultra-light, highly functional utility knife that is incredibly comfortable to carry all day. It won't weigh down your uniform or provide the kind of unnecessary bulk that may cause you to leave the knife at home, causing you to be unprepared in your time of need. Invariably, the best knife for the job is the one you have with you! And it carries low enough to hide its impressive size. But you can pretty much forget about toting it in a front jeans pocket. Although, if you do, you just may be the most popular guy at the bar.

Cold Steel Code 4 won’t rip up your pocket or feel rough on your hand. The clip smoothly deploys from your pocket with a firm enough grip onto your pocket so that it won’t come loose out of your pocket. And it does not have that stupid Teflon coating that Cold Steel puts on a lot of their knives. I have cut cardboard, done food prep, open packages, baton wood, and even hack small branches of trees, and of course, cut rope and wire. It’s a great gentleman knife as well, in saying that you can wear this with a tux and still look good. It deploys very well, even flicking it out without using wrist action.

Like most tri-ad locks the action was pretty tight at first. Opening and especially closing are pretty hard. In fact, it is brutal to close this knife. I was actually nervous I might cut myself or that the knife would fly out of my hand when trying to open it one handed. The tension on the triad lock is so extreme that the edges of the lock bar dig into your thumb. The Cold Steel Code 4 is going back. It's kinda like having a beautiful, fast car that you need to go in the back door and climb into the front seat every time you go for a drive.

I know, maybe the cons above just work for me. There were many my friend found it’s comfortable using Cold Steel Code 4. They said it’s easy to deploy, open and close this knife. And they did. It’s ok. I always put my trust in that’s a piece of steel. It’s a reliable knife for urban situations.

cold steel code 4 review, cold steel code 4 spear pointI was a little apprehensive about the grip being made of smooth aluminum, but the choils, the clip and a few notches along the back edge where your thumb naturally rests give it a very solid purchase. The quality of the materials is tops as well. It's virtually indestructible. You would have to run it over with a train or melt the metal down to break this knife. The blade’s sharp out of the box. A nice little bonus is that it actually comes with 2 pocket clips, one for either side. (The way they're curved you can't just move the one attached to it to the other side, you have to switch them. This can be accomplished with a hex-bit screwdriver). Cold Steel Code 4 has great size for a folding knife/tactical folder. It's big enough for a serious fighting knife without being one of Cold Steel's infamous "pocket swords".

I love this knife. Extremely beautiful and well built knife, razor sharp out of the box, solid lock up with no play. So what's not to like? Overall, I'm very happy with it. I had it delivered quickly and in excellent condition and would highly recommend it and would buy it again.

Final words: if you haven’t had any folding knife in your pockets, you should consider Spyderco Military (You can read its review here) and this on: Cold Steel Code 4. They’re both great toys for man roaming around. Just consult the law where you live because they’re both large folding knives and can be used as a fighting weapon in urban. In my opinion, if you refer gentleman style you should pick up a Cold Steel Code 4 for your own everyday uses. It’s trust worthy for your investment.

Hi, i like the code 4 and the recon 1, it's a good review that you have here, but i still can't make up my mind on whether to get the code 4 or the recon 1, i'll be using the knife mostly for edc, defense or under emergencies, survival. Any opinion would be great!:) Cheers

Hi Sinkrate,

I have got a Cold Steel Code 4 Spear Point. My friend has a Cold Steel Recon 1. Here are my recommends:
Appearance:
Cold Steel Code 4: 9/10. Recon 1: 9/10
It depends on your style. Code 4 is elegance and shiny. Recon 1 is brutal and dark. Use Code 4 if you're a templar. Recon 1 in case you're a ninja.
Blade:
Code 4: 7/10. Recon 1: 5/10
The code 4 blade is extremely good. I use it to BATON big Logs and it still intact.
Recon 1 blade is somehow not as good as code 4. I fond it has some slighly chipping after hard use. And the coat was fly away after time.
Handle:
Code 4: 5/10. Recon 1: 6/10
Code 4 makes you a slippery feeling. Recon 1 is easy to hold in your hand and safe.
Lock:
Code 4: 3/10. Recon 1: 8/10
Code 4's lock is a nightmare to me. Extremely hard to use. Recon 1 is far more easy.
Please note they're my opinions. If you're a ninja I recommend Recon 1. If you're a handsome guy with elegance style let's buy code 4.

Also want to sorry for my bad English grammar :)
Cheers,
