I wish nalgene had a true standard diameter for its bottles...Cup question

I recently purchased a stainless cup, designed to fit over the bottom of a nalgene bottle.. I have 3 standard wide mouth 1 L bottles, which sit on top of the cup very nicely, and absolutely refuse to slide in.
however, i also have one 48 oz/ 1.4 L bottle of the same general design which fits perfectly.. can pick up the bottle and not have the cup slide off, but a pull easily defeats the vaccum and it comes off.
The cup is a GSI "bottle cup"
Not sure if it's relevant, but the large bottle that fits is the basic grey color, while the smaller bottles are blue, solid white, and some other color, dont remember..
anyways
anybody have a cup that fits over the 1L bottles easily & securely? I'm not likely to be carrying the large bottle that often when I need the cup.
Thanks.

Cripes. I'm with you on this...I was just at REI today searching for such a combo...no luck

i do. Its called the olicamp spacesaver cup and is available at campmor

Would you be willing to measure your cup by any chance?
my cup has a ID of 3.62''

By means of comparison, my 1L bottles have an OD of 3.65''
unfortunately thats more than enough to cause a problem.

...yeah, so I had calipers within reach, what of it :D

sorry I dont have calipers or at least I dont know where I put them but Ive seen the gsi cup at local stores and compared it to mine and im certian the olicamp is bigger and It fits well around my 1 quart wide mouth nalgene.

Olicamp Space Saver Cup
Item Number: 25001
Cup fits over the end of a round 1 quart Nalgene, as well as most other round 1 quart bottles, eliminating the wasted space of packing a traditional cup. Made from quality stainless steel, the wire handles fold flat to save space and extend enough to use the cup to cook in without burning your fingers. Graduations on side. Holds 16 oz. Weight: 4.7 oz.

I've bought more than 10 of those, and they work GREAT! Even worked (sliding the bottle into the cup) with my new Nalgene, that's the new camo bottle. The bottle slides into the Olicamp cup easily, but just barely..., you can feel the air slowly slide out of the cup and the bottle slides in.

Great, thats exactly how the GSI fits my tall nalgene.
Sounds like its time to buy an oilcamp.

The ID of my Olicamp cup is about 3.67", average.

I had to actually stand up to get mine...

I have to buy a new cup for my bottle, I left it on the counter and found it in the dishwasher, cracked:(

Hope I don't have the size problem with the new one, because the old one was perfect.

Olicamp cup from Campsaver.com. I have them on three different nalgene bottles with no problem. I have an even better ss cup packed away that fits on the bottom on a nalgene bottle. It has handles that can be used multiple ways. I will get it out tomorrow and give you its name.

GSI makes several cups of which some don't fit a 1 L botter. A bit surprised that the one you have is labeled bottle cup and doesn't fit as I recently bought one labeled the same and it did. I think I got the 18 oz model whereas the 14 or 16 oz they offer does not fit a bottle.

Usually trail shops know the difference and get the ones that fit. If you buy a GSI cup at Dick's, Sports Authority, Bass Pro, chances are it will be the smaller one because they could save a penny.

my GSI is an 18 ounce. as i stated, it fits the 48 oz bottle, which is (to the eye) the same size.
It's deffinetly designed to fit on your basic nalgene, but is a little less than 1/10th of an inch off.
you can shove it over the regular bottles.. but its going to take some work to get it off.
sounds like you lucked out if your 18 oz fits the standard 1L nalgene.

I have both the Olicamp and GSI space savers, never had or a seen a problem with the polycarb 32 or 42 ounce circular wide mouths before. They just slide on and off. Seen "it doesn't fit" type problems with the 32 ounce narrow mouth polycarb routinely. And NONE of the knockoffs work.

Anyone know how tight the tolerances on the Nalgenes are? I know they are molded, but other than that I don't know anything about their manufacture.

I have six of the "milk jug" nalgene (HDPE) widemouth bottles that I bought years ago. They all fit the above-mentioned Olicamp cup that I got from (daa! daa!) Campmor.

All of my polycarb and HDPE Nalgene widemouth 1l/32oz bottles fit into both of my GSI bottle cups. The polycarb bottles are snug, but move easily in and out. The HDPE bottles have a little more room to move.

However... The Olicamp cup has graduations, which would come in handy in my 1 pot, 1 cup setup. I'll have to invest in one or two fo those.

I have the Olicamp and it works great. I am thinking about picking up the Vargo Ti-Lite, since it can hold a larger volume and is made out of titanium. Ti just makes everything better. :)

I have two of the GSI cups and they fit a little sloppy over the end of my wide mouth polycarb nalgene.

It sounds like either nalgene or GSI has some relatively loose tolerances.. Makes me wonder which it is.

..Maybe its both, and the ranges overlap causing some of ours to not fit.

Another vote here for the Olicamp cups from Campmor. I have four and they all slide onto my several 32 oz. widemouth Lexan Nalgenes.
