idaho washington schools training

I'll throw in a request for locations in/near Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond or Seattle, WA as well.

There is Oregon Firearms Academy in Oregon near Salem which does integrated defensive edged weapons and handguns. Their class seamlessly flows back and forth transitioning from defensive handguns to defensive blades and at times both. They even have a tactical building with movable walls for scenario based force on force simulations for simulated real defense against their staff who can attack you or just act like a bystander. Check out their schedule for their Close Encounters of the Worst Kind. These classes are not like typical martial arts classes they are all very nuts and bolts defensive fighting. The lead instructor is a long time full contact mixed martial arts guy with Filipino background and he is a cage fighter champion. He used to be a contributing editor for some martial arts magazine. He has trained spec ops warriors, cops and now teaches at this academy. They encompass everything from empty hand, edged weapons, impact, handguns, carbines, shotguns etc. Good stuff!

Ronan, I am unaware of any places in Pullman for filipino martial arts. There's plenty of different karate clubs, and at least a couple of years ago someone was teaching krav maga. I'd say your best bet in the area is probably going to be spokane, but you might look in to seeing if there's anything in the lewiston/clarkston area as well.

Oregon Firearms Academy now has a FIST suit for some full contact and full speed sparring. They will be using the FIST for their edged and impact weapons training classes. If you haven't seen the FIST in action check out FIST's website to see a trainer getting wacked with steel batons, a sledgehammer, and other impact weapons at full speed! Amazing.

Click here to see the suit and a short video on a person getting wacked with a baseball bat in a FIST suit. http://www.fist-inc.com/tg/333/333.htm

It may be a bit of a drive to their one day and two day classes but it is worth it!

Well, there are a couple of guys in Spokane. One is teaching a Modern Arnis blend at Family Karate Center in north Spokane and another is teaching a Modern Arnis blend under Bram Frank at the Sharp Shooting Indoor Range complex in the Spokane Valley near the Community College. AFAIK neither were training in FMA exclusively but as a component of their overall curriculum. As far as Idaho, there is a JKD/Kali club affiliated with Hock Hochheim in Post Falls, ID. There was also a group a few years back in Moscow, ID teaching a blend of Kenpo, Thai Boxing, and Kali called Moscow Thai but I dont know if they are still around. If you spend some time looking around you will probably find a fellow student who has some training that might want to teach. There are students from all over the country who come to WSU along with a large international student population too so finding someone to train with might be easier than you think. Try contacting the TKD club and see if they know somebody training/teaching FMA. Other than the above, the only actual FMA only commercial school in eastern WA and north Idaho is the Academy of Manaois Eskrima in Moses Lake, WA which is about 100 miles west of Spokane on I-90. I train at this club and would say the FMA training is some of the best I have seen on the west coast.
