Idea for edge testing: 1 hour with knife AND sharpener combo

As you know, many tests are conducted (more or less) as follows: how many cuts can a blade make in rope until it is too dull to slice paper?

I'd like to see a new type of test: how much rope can a blade cut in 1 hour, along with a sharpener?*

hand powered stone(s) or sharpener of choice - something that might reasonably be taken on a backpacking trip.

The results, ideally, would somehow penalize sharpening with carbide or anything that aggressively grinds away blades' widths.

Has anyone tried it?

I'm finding that some knives with less expensive steels like aus-8 or 420 are fabulous when used with a honing steel.

Not a bad test, but the record keeping and the results may be hard to quantify.

Such as cutting until it doesn't slice....record the cuts and also record time required to return to a serviceable edge.

During the hour some may have to stop several times, so those events would also be needed to do a comparison that would be helpful.

So, while one knife may only need to be sharpened once during that hour, other knives may require several sharpening sessions and that would have to be a mark against the ones with the most 'stops' during the hour.
