So my day's birthday is next month and he isn't really a knife guy. I want something classy for him, not tactical lol. He doesn't like big blades and even said my small sebenza was too big lol, We all know you get used to a little larger blades though. I would like to keep it under 3.25 inches for blade length though. Right now I am strongly considering either a leek (maybe the composite) or a speedform II (love Elmax). I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions that I might be overlooking.

I think a SpeedForm II would be a good choice, a G10 Leek or a Skyline would all be good choices... I'm not sure about assisted knives though..

Yeah I was thinking the same he is 70 and looks at assisted as "switchblades" lol, he also calls my 0560 one because of how fast it flips open

In that case, maybe a Kershaw lockback? Would he rather have something with a pocket clip or traditional style?

I think the CB Leek is a great idea. My dad is a traditional knife guy, too, but really loves that one.

I got a Kurai a couple of weeks ago from a store in PA. I have to say, for what it costs, it's an absolutely fantastic little knife. It looks classy, has a great shape, and a deep carry clip. I say check that one out.

I know Dave's got them for way cheap too. I'm likely picking up a couple as gifts before the winter is out.

I like the kurai, but would have to think of another gift to get him with it as I'd feel cheap just getting it, I believe it's value far exceeds it's cost though. Currently checking out a lot of the other awesome recommendations people have been leaving.

I have a very similar situation as Brent. My Dad's birthday is in April and I was thinking about getting him a new knife. He appreciates knives, but he prefers smaller blades and assisted tech he equates to switchblades. I was thinking that a Silver Spur might be right up his alley. I'm still going to keep looking (I have some time) and I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I got my dad a RAM blem for his birthday but that probably falls under "tactical" look. I can't think of anything else in the Speedform II's price range with its same style. I would say Cryo because it's pretty small but still has that manly feel; my reservation would be the cost being too low (that's a unique problem to have really...)

I think an older gentleman such as your dad would really like a Silver Spur. I've been looking for something nice for my father in law as well, and i've been eyeing up one of these myself.

Good ideas guys, I know he likes a small blade but i'm taking into account something that my father doesn't... His arthritis. The silver spur is very classy but I worry that with it's size he wouldn't even be able to get it open. I might just get him a leek and speedform II both and he can carry whichever he prefers. I say those 2 because for some reason I just keep coming back to them.

Sorry, putting what you want for your Dad on the back burner but I'm a Father and my hands have issues but I would want the latest thing: Kershaw Thermite Assisted Hinderer Flipper. So an IOU for one when available might make a good gift. I wish that my Father was alive so I could give him a ZT 560 or 561 in spite of the fact that he never carried a knife and preferred scissors over knives for most cutting work.
