IDENTIFICATION HELP, okapi Germany (full metal "best") Pocket Knife

I've browsed around on marketplaces, asked ChatGPT and I'm yet to find this exact model with the "best" writing on it. Anyone have any idea what this is and where its from?

I’m not sure of the year, but Okapi had similar knives in it’s lineup in this post-WW2 display (I don’t see a swayback like yours here, though):

Well atleast that gets me closer in some way, but yeah i have no idea, could it be some limited shipment or prototype?

No, far more likely it was just not in the lineup when those ads were printed. Models come and go all the time in every knife company.

There are a few photos at the Worthpoint site linked below, which show a knife that appears to be identical or very nearly so, including the 'BEST' branding on the metal handle. Doesn't offer much info otherwise, other than describing it as 'antique'. But it still doesn't specify how old that might be. And the art of the Okapi on the blade is (I assume) errantly called a 'MOOSE' in their description. So it may hint at a lack of knowledge or accuracy about the specifics of the knife. The listing is supposedly for a knife that has already sold at auction and doesn't show any price info. So, I think it won't violate any guidelines linking it here.

Interesting knife at any rate.

I’m pretty sure Okapi produced a wide variety of cheap knives over the course of decades, sold on cardboard displays like the ones in the images I posted. I suspect that tracking down more precise information than that is most likely impossible. I’m sure any records from the German factory must be long gone, and these things were never valued collector’s items I don’t think. Still a very cool find, though :thumbsup:
