Here is one 897UH pattern from my collection which I suspect is like the one you vaguely describe. It is undyed and shows only the base material color.

Yep. Same. We have never found an official answer to these. I recall three or four patterns that have been found. We note that they have been glazed flush with the bolsters even though undyed. Some have the final edge sharpening and some don't. The black ones were never glazed so the covers don't flush out with the bolsters and the texture of the "stag" is uncomfortably rough.
This one was never carried or sharpened, but still has very sharp factory edge. thanks for all your input. if I find anymore info I will pass it along to you
