If you could only have one multi tool

Impossible to own just one.. But if you insist, my choice would be my black Super Tool 200. Not the most beautiful, but probably the toughest and most practical multitool I've seen yet.
Dave

I agree it is hard to own just one,I have the supertool 200 and the spirit, both are good tools. Sometimes i think i have too many multi-tools and i'm sure i don't have as many as most of you lol :)

Hmmmmm, I'll take the Gerber Legend. My other first choices have no scissors and if I can only have one, I want the works. The Legend served me well for a few years, but it's not quite as sexy as a SwissTool or the Leathermans.;)

From what I've owned and seen I'll take an original swiss tool.

Im not crazy about the new leathermans but I still love my pst!

LM-wave. Original or new version, either one will do me just fine. I would've preffered the Surge, but it gets a tad too heavy after a while.

the Wave over the Charge?

i'm thinking the TTi would be pretty good

although, my Ti has been great

SOG Powerlock all the way. Bare bones no nonsense tool. Has a broad range of tools that are great for everyday use as well as survival in a pinch. The strong plier jaws (true needle nose) are great for grabbing and pulling and the compound leverage makes cutting wire a snap. I know the tools are a little rough looking compared to leathermans and Swisstools but if they break or get too beat up at least I can change them without having to sacrafice your whole tool for a week or two while you send it in for repair. This is just my opinion of a tool that has proved itself time and time again. One last thought this is not a tool for someone to tote around the office it is a large tool with some weight to it.

Definitely the Vic Spirit. Since I got it a year or two ago, the other tools have been mostly gathering dust in drawers. Its size, quality, and tool array make it a no-brainer edc.

I have several multitools.

If I have to choose only one to carry on my belt, it would be the Victorinox Spirit.

If I have to choose only one to keep at home, in a car, in a desk, etc., it would be a heavier tool -- either the Victorinox SwissTool X or the original Leatherman SuperTool.

Luckily I don't have to choose and can keep all 3, plus a SOG PowerLock S60, original Leatherman PST, and a few others.

Year before last I would have picked Leatherman Super Tool 200. Since then, even though I liked it well enough and wasn't really in the market, I have acquired several other makes and models, purely because they were available cheap. My intention was to try them out in comparison, determine which was best, then sell off or give away the others. In some cases I have done so already, and have so far actually come out a little ahead, thanks to blowout deals, often from alerts posted on this forum (Most Grateful for those). Problem is, I grew fond of most and am finding it increasingly difficult to cut ;) any from a collection I never wanted in the first place.

If, however, I only had to choose one, it would be a larger model. It may be overkill for most uses, but there is no substitute for tough enough when needed. That eliminates the Spirit, PST, Juice, Micra and Squirt, nice as they are. Anyway, I carried a Super Tool as EDC for several years and consider the weight no big deal.

In current rotation are my old standby ST 200, an original Swisstool found last year, and a Core picked up at a Target clearance sale in January. At this point the jury is still out. There are things I like and not so much about each of them.

This can go on for years. I'm in no hurry. :)

I'm new to the forum. Hi everyone.

I am a fan of the Leatherman tools. I own several. I use my Surge with bit-kit at work, old style wave at home and on the weekends and the Crunch when out on the bike.

The Surge pouch is big enough to hold a small flashlight, a 4" adjustable wrench and a Sharpie. I've also added a couple of different jigsaw blades to the bit-kit pouch. This combo' has saved me countless trips to the toolbox and got me out of some real scrapes.

But, if I can only pick one of my multi's and I don't get to accesorise, I'll take the Old Style Wave. Small and versitile, it's never let me down.

Dave

I've gone through many multitools and the best I've owned are the Leatherman Wave (pre-2004) and the Leatherman Juice CS4. If I could only have one I'd take the old style Wave. The tool has every element I need and it has yet to ever fail me. I think the Wave has set a benchmark for multitools even if other tools have succeeded it.

If you could only have one? I only had one up until a few months ago. I now have two. I have a LM PST, and my Vic. SwissTool.

I would pick a Vic. SwissTool over anything else available. I have the original model, but a Spirit S would be nice too for its compactness. I could live happily ever after with either one, and a good sheath for it.

Either a heavyduty Swisstool or Leatherman Super 200.
Them two are about the toughest well made pliertools there is.

Victorinox Spirit if I carry a dedicated knife along with it. The strange serrated sheepsfoot on the Spirit works for most everyday tasks, but has its limitations. Sometimes you just want a tip on the blade. Also, the side slabs on the Spirit have a bit of flex in them when using much torque. I'm not saying a bad word on the Spirit though. It is exceptionally well made and well thought out.

For an all-in-one package to use for all tasks, both knife and tool, and being the ONLY tool /knifeon my person, I now carry a Leatherman Charge Ti. Works well for me, although it lacks the finish and superior tool selection of the Spirit.

Well any multitool you buy you will have to make comprimises. For example the vic spirit is a good tool but u have the rounded serrated blade or on the gerber legend there is no can opener or even on my new tti the lanyard ring is badd

I've never had a Swisstool but I have an original LM Supertool. I carried it for years. It's super tough and a great tool but I think my Surge is just as tough. The Surge is also more comfortable and versatile and the one handed opening blades are something I'd have a hard time living without. The only problem is it's heavy. (Supertool 200= 9oz / Surge = 12.5oz.) That's why I picked my Old Style Wave (8oz) if I could only have one. I may reconsider and switch to the Surge though.

This is a hard decision to make. I love all my multi's.
