considering both of these knives are illegal in canada. how did you get them here? :)

Perhaps the hinges are really tight and they won't open centrifugally? Yes that would work... :D

That's true. Balisongs are not prohibited by name in Canada. They (evidently) fall under the "centrifugal opening" category. So, a balisong with tight pivots, and needs two hands to open is not illegal (I wouldn't want to try convincing a cop of this fact though). That's why the CS Black Rock Hunter is legal, and widely available here.

the black rock hunter has springs that make it lock.

cold steel paradox is technically legal in canada as well. but looks way too much like a balisong.

i could see someone modding one to work like a balli though.

Doesn't matter what a folder "looks like" . Canada's knife laws regarding folders are all about the function of the specific knife under scrutiny.
To paraphrase, "Centrifugal force, gravity, automatic via a button or other such thing on the handle "
The CS Black Rock has back springs that prevent it from being opened with "centrifugal force". The same function could be obtained by tightening the pivot screws on a BM42. Design has no impact on legality, only the operation of the knife in question.
You could tighten or loosen the pivots on ANY folder of ANY design and change ANY knife from a legal folder to a prohibited device, or a prohibited device to a legal folder.
Take the spring out of an auto and it's legal. You could even simply tighten the pivot on many autos and they won't budge when you press the button.
That's just the way it is.

I would say...Let's not have this discussion on a World Wide forum
and take it to World Wide E-mail :)....
Take Care....
