I'm finding statements online about the Linder knife company in Germany closing soon... Update: It's true...

I recently ran across a few online Linder knife vendors that had statements about Linder's plan to close it's business during the 2022 year. Although there was more than one website that stated this, I really didn't know if it was only a rumor that had become accepted as fact.

Well, I ran into another "Linder is closing" statement on yet another knife vendor website, but this time I felt it carried more weight, since it's a vendor that does a lot of business with the Linder company and is one of their bigger authorized dealers.

The statement was as follows, (vendor info purposely cropped out of the screenshot)...

I actually have two more Linder Daggers headed my way, (another Kris and a standard Dagger), and I'm glad to be adding them to the collection to further represent the brand... A brand that will soon be defunct.

Anyhow, if you were ever interested in getting a Linder brand knife, it seems time is dwindling to take action. As you all know, when a company closes, their products become scarcer, and the prices usually go up.

Here are the few Linder brand products I currently own, (minus the K55 shown with the mini Linder Nicker Knife). The dagger being the only one made in Germany...

My two incoming Linder knives will be German made.

This sucks; ive been a fan of Linder since the 80s they made some of the nicest bowies(i have 2) and daggers.

Yeah, knife centers of the world like Solingen Germany and Sheffield England have lost most of their cutlery industry.
Yes... Sad to be seeing another old name going way of the DoDo Bird 😔

It’s a tough world there these days with so much competition. I never owned Linder knives but it always seemed like they should have modernized themself a bit. I don’t mean super steels or anything but at least having some sort of media presence could have helped. When you just post two dimensional photos to your outdated website it hardly inspires the buyer.

I guess their very beginnings was making pocket knives, but, I think as time went on, they became best known for their Bowies, Nickers, and Daggers.

I know that during the past so many years now, they've only had a small production of stuff made in Solingen, with much of their stuff being outsourced to places like Spain, Brazil, and China. In any case, it was a company with a fairly long history behind it.

If you have some of their wares, they will soon be a part of a bygone era... Hold on to them 👍😊👍

Very true. It's partly Western products having a hard time competing with Asia in a globalized world. When I last bought a Linder dagger from a dealer it cost me close to $90. Very thin stock(4mm) of what is considered mediocre steel(440A), wood for handle and brass for a very simple design of guard and pommel. I believe I was mostly paying the wages of the guy who assembled it in Solingen. And higher wages(relative to Asia) don't necessarily equate higher quality. In fact, I suspect in the last days of a company like this there is a lot of "cutting corners" for the sake of offering a more competitive price. That is, of course, pure speculation for my part and not necessarily the case with Linder.

I suspect the tax regime of the EU was involved as well. But the biggest factor was lack of innovation like you said: Not a facebook page, instagram, forums, hardly any youtube videos, etc. Only a medieval buggy website. That is what doomed them.

I think Hubertus has suffered the same fate. I tried contacting them and I never heard back. They also lack social media presence.

Oh well. RIP Linder. I ordered two knives from an European website. They were out of stock so I don't know how long it will take or if they will be able to fullfill the order. But if I do get the knives I'll take a picture of all my Linder knives and post it here. In the meantime, here is the prettiest dagger I own: a Linder PPR III(The dagger next to it is made by Ojeda in Mexico).

Here is a video of another Linder I have, a replica WW2 Fahrtenmesser:

I send an email to one of my contacts at Linder. Will post an update if i receive an answer. I carried my Linder trachtenmesser on my wedding so it will be a loss if they close down. Their "Germaness" might have caused their downfall. Married to a German wife myself i can honestly say that this is typically German. They don't show off, they seem to have high standards, adhere to "duty" and don't cut corners. In an Instagram world this might not be viable on the long run. Their German made knives where always good honest Quality. Not the latest and greatest but knives steeped in tradition. And apparently this is not what the average buyer wants these days. Sad to see another one go.

Well said, Sir... And please update us if you get a solid scoop 👍

I know that website Jimmy. I decided NOT to buy from them because they don't accept Paypal.

Also, they list the steel on these knives as 420A which AFAIK is not correct. Should be 420C or 420HC which is roughly the same. When I asked the dude(who is in Spain) he said he got that info from Linder directly and that I should hurry up and order because they are going out of business. I did hurry up and ordered... from another website.

I received my new Linder Kris Dagger today with a Snakewood handle.

Now I'm just waiting for one more Linder Dagger to arrive. The incoming one is a pre-owned model that will be of an early 1990's vintage. It's handle is supposedly a faux Mother of Pearl handle material called 'Perlex'. The blade will be the standard dagger type, not a wavy kris.

Here are a couple pics showing my latest Linder Snakewood Kris Dagger, and it next to the other one I got in Stag handle material...

It would certainly be a shame if they closed, my Linder knife is awesome!

That said, their official website doesn't have a peep about closing (linder.de). It seems business as usual over there? Are we sure about what's going on?

Jim Malone above is checking with Linder, so hoping we can get the solid word one way or the other 👍

Most items are out of stock so... not a good sign.

According to Linder's website some items will be re-stocked(hopefully) by the end of the month. The two knives I ordered are among those.

This is probably the dagger you wait for:

Looks very pretty for sure but I'm not sure it's good for much else.
