Hi guys
This is my first post, I hope I am in the right place to post this question? I'm looking into purchasing a Kukri.
1. I'm looking for a 10 to 11 inch blade.
2. The kurki's with a tang, do they loosen with time like a file? Will the handle crack and split over time?
3. Should I get one with the blade going through a two piece wood handle with rivets?
4. I'm looking for one that is of good quality and workmanship.
5. I would like a polished blade.
6. Are there any domestic (USA) importers that I can order from that are reliable?
7. Anything that I missed, or am I just dreaming of something that is not possible?

Himalayan Imports. Answers most if not all of your questions IMHO.
Handles can crack and split over time but I have never had a knife do so. I guess it depends on how you treat it/environment.

The only kukri I have is a Condor HD made in El Salvador. Don't know how authentic it is and I don't care. It's a beast and the quality far outstrips the price.

Himalayan Imports if you want the best genuine khukuri available. If you want something off an assembly line the Condor heavy duty kukri is a good option.

I found this kukri of interest 15 inch Ang Khola: http://yhst-7333098713883.stores.yahoo.net/15inchangkhola.html

The blade looks polished from the picture?
What is better the Wood or the Horn handle for durability?
Which looks better the wood or the horn?
The blade has a tang in the handle, has anyone had the blade fall off the handle when swinging or hitting something?

Where do I get the Coupon Code / Promotional Code that I see on the order sheet?

Himalayan Imports is the way to go, hands down. Their quality is unmatched. The hidden tang goes all the way through the handle and is peened over at the end and held in place by the buttcap. You shouldn't have any problem with it coming apart.

The wood vs. horn is really a personal preference. The wood handles tend to have more texture and therefore grip, while the horn handles are very smooth.

Check out the Himalayan Imports forum here on BF. The owner Yangdu is wonderful and she runs the U.S. side of the business. All orders ship from her in Revo, NV so you will get them very quickly.

Here is a great resource for HI khukuri info: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...me-to-Read-the-Himalayan-Imports-Link-Library

Thank you Phillll for your responce, do you know where I can get a Coupon Code / Promotional Code that I see on the order sheet?

I don't think there are any coupon codes. That's just sort of a standard field in the checkout software. If you're looking for a deal, Yangdu frequently posts blemished items in the HI forum for a deep discount.

Natural handle materials such a bone, horn, and wood will all shrink and expand with temperature and humidity changes. However, some to a lesser extent due to stabilization and proper preparation before attaching. HI is your best option I think for quality vs price.

I don't own one YET but when I'm ready this is where I'm going.

Himalayan Imports is the place for a real khukuri! The craftsmanship is top notch incredible, and no one else even comes close to their customer service, or business ethics!

Give them a try and you will never use anyone else ever again.....

I contacted Yangdu at Himalayan Imports. She said that they did not have the kukri that I was looking for and would not get one for sometime and try back next month.

I was looking at some kukris from GK&CO. Kukri House in Nepal.

Has anyone purchased one from this company and were you satisfied with the quality?

I would go with any kukri made by Khukuri House or the Ex-Ghurka Kukri House. Full tang construction, 10mm spine, differential heat treatment, weights anywhere from 30 oz to 2 lbs, blade lengths in the range you want, and good prices.

This ebay seller has a wide selection of EGKH made knives. I do know that Kukri House can custom make a kukri to your specifications, but I have never done so.

As far as your question about the tang, I have used a kukri for years now that isn't full tang and it has held up well. However, if given the option to go for full tang, especially in such a brutal chopping tool, I would take it.

I have khukri's from a few different manufacturers, Cold Steel, Kukri House, Ex-Gurkha, etc. In my opinion, if you're wanting to go with a traditional handmade Ex-Gurkha is the only way to go. They provide the best overall knives when it comes to consistent spine thickness to edge sharpness out of the box.

I had an issue with one of the khukri's they sent me, it was purely esthetic and they went above and beyond to correct things.

Himalayan Imports has there own forum on here and a loyal following. There knives are too heavy for my tastes, but they produce nice knives and have "deals of the day" specials .

It depends on what you're looking for really. If you want a traditional khukri in a traditional weight range I don't think you can beat Ex-Gurkha.

Get a KLVUK from H.I. and never look back! The "Villager Ugly Knife" is an entry level, minimal finish, user blade of a handy size for all round use. Like a Nepali villager might buy and use. Also good for a little personal modification. A real user. I got mine with a great aftermarket sheath for $85. The sheath was a "Kami medical fund" special from H.I. My Becker Brute and C.S. Trailmaster went into the safe when I got this one --KV
