I'm so torn....

There are a lot of totally unrelated knife designs that I have just fallen in love with.

I'm on an extremely tight budget (at least for knives) and I can only afford one right now. Could you guys give me advice on what to choose? Right now, all of these knives are jockeying for the top spot on my to buy list, so I'm kind of torn.

Any opinion would be great!

Knives I'm choosing from.

-Spyderco UKPK (Ideally orange of fol. green)
-Spyderco Delica (oh my goodness, how can I not have one?)
-Spyderco Cricket (I'd like the etched version, but i'll probably go with the stainless if I choose this knife cause it's cheaper)
-Boker Trance (really like the difference between the two handle scales)
-Ontario Rat-3 in 1095 (cheaper than Rat RC-3)

I'm not really looking for any specific utility or use from these knives, I just want something I can use and enjoy.

Let me know. Thanks.

You can't go wrong with any of the Spydercos, or the Rat-3. I don't like the Boker Trance, but a lot do.

My choice of the ones you listed it the Cricket. It's small, but it's a great little slicer and has a very useful tip. Get the SS version and make a fun little project out it. Get a sheet of colored G-10 or some exotic wood and make a handle scale for it and finish it off with a nice fob.

It's one of my very favorite Spydercos.

Spyderco quality and performance has always spoken for itself, so I'll chime in on the Trance instead. I had one for a while, and was pretty pleased with everything but the blade steel. If you're not a steel snob it's good knife. It's comfortable, grippy, slim, and has a very useful blade style- it just can't handle small edge geometry and needs to be sharpened pretty often.

Probably it is most expensive in your list, but I would go with Orange UKPK.
I EDC Caly3 for more than two years and thought that I do not need it, but this picture convinced me to get it

absolutely love this knife. I used to have two Delicas and three crickets (one of the etched), all of them gone. UKPK will stay.

I really don't know... i'm leaning toward the ukpk because of that gorgeous picture in that post bh49 had.....

still open tho...

UKPK:thumbup:

It would fill many roles and has many benefits:

--the slip joint would make it legal whenever a lock is outlawed
--blade length under 3" for places that restrict longer
--its look is relatively non-threatening
--being from Spyderco, its quality is top-notch
--it simply looks cool
--ideal blade size... not too small, not too big
--excellent steel (s30v)
--VG handle is comfortable, durable, grippy

Another vote here for the UKPK. I haven't got one yet, but that's cause I've been to busy buying Militarys. :D

I'm going to cast my vote for the Trance. It's a nice little knife, especially for the money. Compared to your other options, it's a pretty damn cheap knife, but it isn't cheap in quality. You can use this as a stop gap and save up some cash and get one of your more expensive desires later on (or go with the etched Cricket as opposed to the SS). All the knives are great choices though - can't imagine you'd be disappointed with any of them.

This is a tough one.
Trance, with a solid handle scale.
Spyderco. U pick-it. :)

trance seems to be a good idea... been looking up prices on the ukpk...

I can get a foliage for about $77 but I can get an orange for $86 on eBay (oh my goodness, I use ebay!). After subtracting about 9% from paypal cashback (which you guys should use) its about 70 and 78 respectively... is it worth the extra eight bucks for the orange?

wow that sounds stupid. the problem is i really haven't stressed enough how low on funds i am for knives... hate being addicted... $8 is already like a 1/3 the price of a trance...

what to do...

If you go for the UKPK and want it in orange, then the $8 is worth preventing the buyers remorse when you end up with a green one and $8 burning a hole in your pocket a month from now.

If you're as strapped as you say your are for cash though, which not just hold off until you see the UKPK on the BST for a steal?

It'd go with the UKPK again.

Great steel, egro, it's made in golden, great company. That or the delica. The cricket is hard to sharpen.

UKPK

But I'm a little biased.

Delica or UKPK would be great.

Also, as far as the ontario rat, you should pay the extra for a better company and a better warranty. I think you'd prefer the better quality too.

have you looked at the Rat Cutlery Izula?

+1,000,000

don't buy an ontario rat when you can own the real deal
