I'm sure this is a common? question type, but I'm wondering if I got scammed.

Got a SOG Pillar recently. I'm wondering if it's fake, mostly because there's no little restricted use "r" circle next to the SOG logo like I'm seeing on the net images. It feels pretty sharp, and the handle feels like it's fitted well, though. Another thing to note is that the tip isn't that sharp. I can rest the whole thing tip down on my arm without feeling like I'm in any serious danger.

Am pretty new to all this knife business, so please let me know if there's anything glaringly obvious that I missed out or if there's other pictures I should take.

Also the handle smells strong, some kind of chemical that I recognize but can't quite put my finger on. Maybe superglue?

...Amazon (I know it was a bad idea but it was like $50 cheaper than bladeHQ). They've got a good return policy and I felt that I could take my chances.
I have couple of those i got from authorized dealers. Ill look tonight at them vs. yours tonight.

I seem to remember some variances in the logos on this model depending on the run made. my memory is sog had this model made by outside American firm, wasn't themselves and that led to some minor logo differences.... also website pics at dealers or elsewhere aren't always the actual knife sometimes its a stock marketing type pic and the end knife is a tad different superficially in things like logos and such.

Bless you mate. Thanks for the help.

I mean, many of us have been there, taken that "risk"... see a great deal, maybe even almost too good, etc.... YOLO right? Take the risk vs. Take the safe bet; Make the gamble vs. Make the wiser choice. A daily struggle sometimes for sure!
Best of luck too ya...

One thing I notice, and certainly not a "smoking gun" with SOG qc, but it appears the entire SOG print is pushed farther to the right than any authorized dealer pics I see.

Was amazon both the seller and shipper? Usually they are more reliable if they are the seller as they would have purchased from a legitimate distributor.

Here’s my advice. If there is any doubt about the authenticity, return it (easy to do since it’s Amazon) and order from that giant online vendor in Missouri. The Sog Pillar (Blackout version) is on sale there for $99. You can also search for online coupon codes that will take an additional 10 or 15% off. Too bad you didn’t post 2 days ago, they had 25% off all SOG knives, including sale items. This Pillar would have been out the door for $75. Unreal. Still, $99 is a great deal. I bought two of them the last time these were on sale. Interestingly enough, the non-blackout version (the one you have) is selling for $249 there. Give me the Blackout version any day!!

Btw, my Pillars don’t have the Registered mark you are talking about either

the non coated one is an older run. as you can see the two are different in labeling size and location....obviously different runs.

yours matches my coated one, on the sog logo. I'm saying you're good. if it's a clone it's a top notch one. everything matches that I can tell.

let's see the sheath pics though.....

hope that helps....

Thanks, all of you. Sheath looks like what I see on the net. I can shake out the knife, but that's only if I pretty much throw it while holding the sheath. If that's considered defective, I don't mind too much. Not going to attach sheath pics until I figure out how to screw on the teklok. Personally would have preferred the "Studies and Observations Group" version of the logo, since I think that looks cooler, but oh well. Also expected the stonewash finish to look more like Civivi's satin, but I think I prefer this look. Also, is the tip dull-ish on all of yours as well? I can place the whole thing tip down on my hand without feeling like I'm in imminent danger. It's not a problem, since I could probably sharpen the tip, but was wondering how it came for yours.

Nah. Seller was like Elite Global Domains. Only 8 ratings, all 5 stars, but it seems like a lady based in Florida so she's either going to scam me for all I've got or sell the most authentic pieces on the net. Everything's tough to ascertain here in Cali.

Very, very appealing deal. However, I'm using my pillar on foodstuffs rather than boxes, so I don't entirely trust the cerakote. Maybe I'll get another one, though. That price is unbeatable.
