Increasing Titanium Grippiness

Hey everyone,

I own a folding knife I like in every way possible...except that the machined titanium scales are too slick. Does anyone know of a surface blasting or other process that increases the amount of friction on a titanium surface and who could perform this?

Heavy/coarse blasting can help quite a bit, as long as you like the matte finish that goes along with it. Beyond that, you'd need to actually cut or mill the scales like engraving/checkering/jimping/etc.

Unfortunately it's a highly contoured Jens Anso style grip that doesn't take tape well. This is why I'm looking for a surface treatment.

If you are willing to change the look a bit what you can do is file the very tips of the scallops flat. This will create sharp angles that will provide more traction when gripped than the soft tips. You can do very little filing and get a noticeable increase in grip. And the filed areas will darken a bit over time.

I screen shot that off the web and sent a copy to Sal. He didn’t reply, so I assume he had already seen it.
