Hi all! I'm in the process of getting my first custom (a Davidson Hornet). I'm very excited about it! I am interested in wood inserts, but unfortunately know almost nothing about the different kinds of wood. Those mentioned specifically in the post are "Ironwood, Snakewood, Ebony, Stabilized Burls, etc. "

Does anyone have any links to a page about these woods, or photos, info about the woods (durability, looks, grip, etc)? I've seen some examples of the different woods looking at pics of others customs, but it'd be nice to have an easy comparison.

I did a search for old threads, all I was able to find was people saying that wood is good in general, mentioning a few different kinds (usually stabilized wood) and the only bad thing is that it can crack (which isn't often). Any more info would be greatly appreciated! Especially pictures! :)

Two words: Desert Ironwood.

Just my personal preference. Beautiful, dark, deep-looking wood. Grain is almost always spectacular.
