Interesting Tomahawk Oxblood Sheath - American Tomahawk Company?

Hello. I am new to the forum but have been collecting knives for about 3 years. I like Military and Vietnam Era knives and have some Standard Military issues and also some Randalls.

I recently bought this leather sheath for not a lot of money on Ebay. Unfortunately the seller had the Sheath only and No Tomahawk. Shape, construction, and oxblood color looks similar to other lAmerican Tomahawk Company sheaths that I have seen. Any help identifying this sheath would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like an old VTAC sheath. Shape and rivet placement are identical to the (cheap) ATC/Cold Steel sheaths which came with the discontinued CS Vietnam Tomahawk
 
Thanks for taking a look. It does look similar to the Cold Steel Vietnam Tomahawk sheaths but I thought the CS sheaths were embossed with American Tomahawk Company on the front. This one is not embossed.

Thanks. I did not know the earlier CS Vietnam Tomahawk sheaths were not embossed. If the sheath is from 1995 it definitely looks like it has 23 years of associated wear. It looks like CS did a very good job copying the original LaGana Tomahawk sheaths (maybe too good)

Were the earlier CS Vietnam Tomahawks marked Taiwan like the later ones?
 
Awesome photos and information. Thanks! No spread out rivet on my sheath so most likely an early CS sheath. Now I want to buy a CS Vietnam tomahawk but they are no longer in production. I want one! Tomahawks are Just Too Cool!
 
Your Green dyed Tomahawk is Amazing! Both the shaft and handle look very different from others I have seen? Amazing!
 
My understanding is that Peter LaGana made about 3500 Tomahawks for the American Tomahawk Company during the Vietnam War Era almost all with wood handles. I have never seen a LaGana Tomahawk with a Fiberglass haft. Is that photo taken from the web or do you actually own that LaGana Fiberglass Tomahawk. They must be INCREDIBLY RARE!

Also I see that the discontinued CS Vietnam Tomahawks come up for sale on our favorite auction site quite regularly. Does anyone on the forum have one they would like to sell. Tomahawk does not need to be in Mint condition and It does not have to have a Sheath- Already got that Sorted ;)

I have never seen a LaGana Tomahawk with a Fiberglass haft. Is that photo taken from the web or do you actually own that LaGana Fiberglass Tomahawk. They must be INCREDIBLY RARE!

I found these 2 Tomahawks for sale. First is a CS Vietnam Tomahawk for $189 and the other is a VTAC for $125. Any thoughts on which Tomahawk I should buy? Both look to be in Unused Condition. Thanks!

bbk....it depends if its for a collection or to use.....The VTAC is a more durable piece.....Looks like it has a custom sheath....If you want a user keep looking they come up often.....
 
Thanks for letting me know about the Sheath. Not the sheath that normally comes with the VTAC Tomahawk. What do you guys think about the custom VTAC Sheath?

Is a nice looking sheath. Ask the person selling it if the original sheath comes with it...
 
Sorry for the delay. I've been busy Buying my First Tomahawks. I was not exactly sure which one of buy so I bought 3. Here we go:

1. Bought the VTAC with the Leather Sheath. Offered $100 plus $14 shipping and seller accepted. My understanding that this is the Best Quality. I might try to throw this. I've never owned a Hawk so Throwing one sounds like good fun. I've seen the videos of this tomahawk destroying a cinder block and that sounds like a good way to burn off some steam!

2. Bought a United Cutlery for $20 plus $7 shipping. Read the reports so low expectations on this one. Maybe have fun with this and try to do a tiger stripe paint job

3. Bought a Cold Steel Vietnam Tomahawk $110 with shipping included. My understanding is that this one is very close to the original LaGana tomahawk so maybe just keep this one for display.

All of the photos are the actual Tomahawks I bought. All are the Seller's photos. I'm an American and live in Thailand but have all my purchases sent to my US address. I will need to wait upon my next visit to pick them up. Very excited! I can see why you guys like Tomahawks - They are just wicked cool looking!

A very good friend of mine sent his original LaGana to Lynn Thompson, and that is what the Cold Steel version was copied from, so they will be very close to the originals. John
