Is a SwissChamp to big to carry in your pocket?

Would it be too wide to be comfortable in your pocket?

Yes. I tried dangling mine, seemed to be okay for a while, but in the end I went back to the belt pouch. It is less the weight, 6.5 oz/185 g, than width, takes up too much pocket space and bangs against the leg when walking. Of course, if you sit all day, no probs.

Welcome to Bladeforums, Destructor. I can carry a 4 layer Explorer Plus on a daily basis without too much worry. But the Swisschamp, at 8 layers (?), is too big for EDC in my opinion. Way too big, unless you are really committed. But it could be carried for short durations.

I usually use a belt pouch for my Wenger equivalent Toolchest. This many layers is too big to carry comfortably in my pocket as it bangs around even with all of my other pocket junk.

Actually, I found it okay on the belt and carried a S'champ that way for years almost every day. At the time, it was my only SAK/multi-tool, and if I'm ever back to one again, it would probably be that (although Leatherman Charge TTi a close contender.)

I carry mine in my pocket every day for over a year. Don't like to leave home without it. It's big and heavy but worth it for all the tools it has. I don't know how many times I've been glad to have it in my pocket. To me it's worth the size for the usefulness of it. In the past I've carried other multi tools (SOG, Letherman ect.) but I use my Champ more then any other tool I've owned.

In summary big and heavy yes. Worth the size for usefulness yes.

I use to carry mine in a belt pouch. I´ve tried it for some days but I don´t like that stone in my pocket to carry around the whole day. You actually need a strong belt or the pants will move downwards... :p

But I just use to have that beast in my car and no longer on my person as I prefer it regular MTs in need of strong(er) pliers.

I rides great in my skinth belt pouch. It is definitely uncomfortable and unsightly in the front pocket.

I carry the WorkChamp and the SOG Blacktip in my pocket during the work week no problems.

But during the weekends I prefer something with a pocket clip.

Long Answer: Too Big and Heavy for Pocket carry :D

My friend Harry carried a 7-layer Champion in his attache case. A Champion was a SwissChamp without the pliers.

It is still sold as the Champion Plus, with the addition of a parcel hook and "Plus tools" (pin, pen and mini screwdriver). It was the biggest pocket knife I had seen.

Harry was an engineer in one of the city's water filtration plants. It was a hard job with lots of overtime and six day weeks, and he used his SAK every day. I asked him once if he had ever seen a patronage worker at work. I meant "at the filtration plant," but he misunderstood me and when he finished laughing, he wiped his eyes and said "No, Piso, a patronage worker doesn't work. The most he will do is watch you to see if you're working."

4 or 5 layers is my max that I like to use. Anything thicker than a Ranger or Woodsman and the knife starts to feel clumsy to me while using it. Look at a Huntsman plus for a great 4 layer knife.

I carry a Swiss Champ in my pocket vertically next to my phone and a space pen. They all more or less stay in position and I do not wear skinny jeans.
