I want to dye the scales on my BM 300sn to black and am wondering if anyone has ever tried dying scales with just hair coloring dye? Or what kind of dye do you use to color your scales?

I used the standard RIT black dye to dye some Becker micarta grips. If the BM scale are micarta, it should work the same. Don't know about hair dye though.

I've used RIT dye to dye various things. I'm sure hair dye could be used if you can't find RIT. I mean, we're talking a porous material and Something designed to stain. Should work.

Think i might try the hair dye cause i'm thinking will probably work if not better than RIT dye. Though buying RIT dye for future scale dying for sure so thanks for bringing that to my attention fellas. At my Mom's house on the farm and she has some hair dye around and got to thinking wanted to dye the scales on the 300. Might just wait to buy some RIT dye though. Pretty tired been cutting wood and hauling brush all day.

I actually use shoe polish quite a bit, mostly just black, soaks in and has held up well on certain scales and leather sheaths.

I've used RIT dye to change multiple scales to black. I wish you could use dye to go from black to another color, but I've never heard of it working (which makes sense to me). I've never personally tried to change a black scale to another color, but would love to find a good solution other than paint/Duracoat/Cerakote, etc.
