Is my Manix 2 fake?

I just bought a manix 2 on amazon, bd1 ffg with the translucent blue scales. Im just worried because the buttons for the lock are black instead of clear, and the lock is pretty stiff. If anyone has an answer to this i would greatly appreciate it
 
Without pictures it's impossible to tell. If you purchased directly through Amazon and it was sold by Amazon I'm sure you're fine. Was the box sealed?
 
Not sure about the black lock buttons as a warning sign for a fake, but my Manix 2 lock was pretty stiff until it broke in after a couple days of incessant opening/closing. Can you post a pic?
 
Looks fine. The action will get smoother and easier as it breaks in.
 
My eyes ain't so good anymore, and with the reflection I can't tell but does it have the Eric Glesser mark above the Golden, Co? I've never seen black BBL buttons on that version of the manix 2.
 
Yeah it has the mark, and the black buttons are what confused me. But i suppose they could have just ran out of clear ones during production one day and swapped in the black
 
I'd tend to think it's genuine. They're all sealed from amazon.

You could always ask Spyderco. They could probably authenticate it from the pictures alone, but I'm positive they could do it if you sent it to them. Maybe send them an email and see if the specific vendor on there was supplied directly by Spyderco.
 
I have the zip tie there because i plan on using it as both an edc and a self defense blade as i've had a few problems on public transportation here in nyc, and i've learned having a blade deploy straight from the pocket is fairly intimidating haha
 
Just to let you know you're taking a risk keeping that knife clipped to your pocket in NYC.
 
Oh yeah i know, the knife laws here are absolutely absurd (although the manix 2 is technically completely legal), but luckily i've never been stopped or frisked. If i ever am i pray the cops i encounter are understanding and level headed.

My Manix 2 S110V has the black cage as well. My understanding is that the newer versions of the Manix 2 LW, including the BD1 version, all come in black instead. There was some discussion on the sub-forum here and on the mfg forum [Edit: see amg137's post above] that confirm this to be the case. Enjoy your knife. I'm sure it is fine if that is all that seems off. :)

Great knife, BTW. That was my favorite EDC until I got the S110V version.
 
On second thought, it probably is a fake. Send it to me, I don't mine fakes. :highly_amused:
 
Amazon is generally pretty reliable. I've purchased many knives from there and never got any fakes as far as I know.
 
Oh gosh I just received my same manix LW a day ago. I know you got your answer but just to reply, customers thought the clear cage looked cheap so they made it black. The black cage is the newest model. Enjoy your knife!

Actually the black cage is a stronger polymer just to clarify. I heard the clear cages were breaking on occasion.
