Is the benchmade infidel worth the price

Compared to a microtech in a similar price point why would I want to buy an infidel. I personally own the drop point blade infidel and it seems cheap to me. Also it's not a fake

I've never owned a Microtech and I don't own an Infidel, but Benchmade has great customer service and an amazing warranty. I've heard not so great thinks about Microtech's warranty, but like I said, I've never owned one so take that with a grain of salt. Personally, if I were to buy an automatic, I think I'd be most tempted by the Benchmade Phaeton

I own a phaeton; I chose it over the infidel. I have friends that have microtechs. I like them both, but I am bias due to living in Oregon.

Sharpening otf’s are a pain in the rear, so I always take it to benchmade to sharpen.

My friends must take their microtechs downtown to the cutlery shop, that is a microtech dealer, in order to send it in for sharpening.

Not an OTF, but the mini reflex seems like it would have a really useful blade and just be a great knife overall. BM has an old video where they do a lock test and all that. Pretty damn impressive for a button lock automatic imo. I’d buy a mini reflex or phaeton before I’d buy an infidel, but the infidel is probably considered a pretty legendary knife and i think that may be incorporated into the price

I've owned an Infidel, a Microtech Ultratech, and a Phaeton.

My Microtech felt better made initially than the Infidel, and fired harder for longer before it started failing to open/close. BUT, once the Microtech started "slowing down" due to pocket funk, I couldn't do anything about it because of the proprietary screwheads. Once my Infidel started slowing down, I was able to pull it apart and clean things up. Granted, the first time I popped my Infidel apart it was a NIGHTMARE, but I got the hang of it eventually.

The 204P on my Microtech chipped like mad. The D2 on the Infidel held up better, but wouldn't take as fine of an edge. I HATED the spear point double chisel grind on the Infidel and that's what ultimately led me to sell it. I also didn't like having to tear the whole knife apart every few months.

I sold the Microtech due to the chippy steel and dumb screws.

I ditched my Phaeton because the mechanism would occasionally fail to retract the blade into the handle if I was holding it upside down. I even tore it apart and gave the whole mechanism a shinejob to reduce friction, but it barely helped.

In the end, I decided OTF's aren't for me. The mechanisms aren't reliable enough, the maintenance is woeful to perform, the blades are too short and too skinny to put any kind of low-angle edge on them, and everyone will tell you "those are illegal" even though they aren't (for me in Oregon).

I've had an Infidel and many Microtechs (UTX-70s, 85s, Ultratechs and Troodons), both are well made and fun knives. Never had issues with either but overall prefer Microtech for their variety in blade styles, better action and deployment switch on the side rather than the front. Also, prefer the smaller overall profile of the Microtech designs since I don't carry an OTF as my primary EDC (always secondary, unless it's a Troodon). So, for me the Infidel is not worth the cost as I could get another Troodon for a similar price, (and I did, when I sold my infidel)
