Is the Coating Food Safe?

Hello. I just got my fourth Becker, the BK16. I am debating whether or not to strip the finish off. I am currently using it to eat cheese and peanut butter. It's the perfect size for slicing the cheese and it also fits in the peanut butter jar. But, is the epoxy powder coating (I think that's still what it is) safe to eat off of? Thanks.

I wouldn't want to eat it, but I bet it's also quite stable and very little comes off in your food. If you do strip it, you'll get a nice patina. We all want to see the PB-Patina.

Watch out for that edge if you buy glass jar peanut butter. No worries w/ plastic jars, but taping the edge on glass anything will roll it instantly. (relative hardnesses 'n' such)

Both my bk5 and bk18 have there coating on and i use them for food. The coating still seems 100% intact. Also food cleans off both of them with ease thanks to the coating. I use the bk98 and bk62 more often and both of those have stonewashed finish. Oddly enough, the 98 cleans just as easy as the coated knives while the 62 seems to grab hold of the food a little more. Could be the food that I use each with since the food determines what knife i use.

Either way, theres no concern.
