I'm looking to get a kershaw volt ss and was wanting to hear (as usual) what people thought on the knife. I really like the look very smooth and clean. Also looks like a blank canvas that you could do a ton of mods on. The thumb ramp could easily be turned into a wave and the blank steel handle slab would be easy enough to ad milling, texturing or to coat. Would love to know or see some mods on your Volt. God bless.

It is a solid knife. It is assisted so one side has a pocket for the spring. This may affect how deep you can mill it. I polished up the handles a bit and sanded the backspacer flush to the handle. I them added jimping to the lock bar to be able to disengage a little easier. It can be a little slippery if getting your hands wet. All in all it's a good knife for the price I got it at.

for what it is and costs, it aint bad. i like mine.

Yeah, not the most solidly built knife but for the price, not a bad knife. Fairly sharp too.
Great entry level knife.

I have the Volt SS and It is a nice blade. At one time I went on a Kershaw spree looking for my perfect flipper. This one was a nice sample of their work.

I ended up with a Volt II. The torsion bar/spring broke on my son's knife and we sent it back to Kershaw for repair. They sent us a new one rather than fixing the old one and in the meantime I bought my son another one (it took them a while to get it back to us). I think I just should have asked them for the spring and put it in myself. So, dad gets the one from Kershaw, good deal! Anyway, I have this to say about it:

1. The handle is a little small for my hands (maybe the original Volt is larger, I don't know)
2. The spring assist works really well if you like that type of thing.
3. Kershaw customer service is very good and reliable, but was a little slow in my case.
4. Their 8cr13MoV is good enough steel and holds an edge well for the price
5. My son bought one with half serrations that I would not have bought.
6. The blade was ground very well, centered well and the sharpening was very good too.
7. The handle material is fine, well made and is not slippery, but I do not know about the SS version.
8. Lockup was tight

I thought about changing out the scales for something a little more refined, but after looking at it, it appeared to be a bit tricky. I seem to remember that they routed out the scales for the spring assist, but I'm not sure if I remember correctly.

<edit> Oops, I see dsalazar has already described this in a previous reply.

I've got a few Volt II's I use as around the house/yard knives.

For the price they're pretty good.

I really like the look of the Volt and wish Kershaw (or ZT) would revisit a premium version of the Volt like they did with the old 3600 Composite Blade version or ZT0600. I think the Volt/ZT0600 style is one of my favorite R.J. Martin designs and would be all over an upgraded version if it didn't come out at a crazy dumb price. For my purposes, I don't much carry SS handled knives or assisted open knives, so although I like the design, the current iterations of the Volt just don't work for me.

Out of all the budget, overseas manufactured Kershaws, I think the Volt is one of the better choices.
