I was looking around for one after a discussion with some folks . Reminiscing about my childhood and how we all had one of them that the blade was loose or just plain broke off after an hour or so of throwing it at a tree or whatever haha .

I see right when you first search they haven't changed much Link removed, read the site rules.

So I figured I'd ask here as this is the grail of knowledge of knives. Anyone ever come across one that wasn't complete garbage ? Perhaps a stock removal one piece . 1095 or s30v or whatever blade .

Something youd actually go out into the woods with that has a hollow handle with kit ?

I myself cannot find one that isnt " Blade: Stainless Steel " rolls edge when you look at it too hard.

Chris Reeve Knives used to make a hollow handled knife out of a solid billet of steel, with an aluminum cap, but that is out of production. I think there are other companies producing them. They are considerably more expensive than the one you linked, though.

Chris Reeve Knives used to have a Shadow series where the knife was a single piece and the handle was hollowed out. at the pommel you could unscrew the bottom and use the inside of the handle for storage. I haven't kept up to see if any other makers have had their own versions of this type of knife. I believe these are discontinued and the ones I can find online are listed at higher end custom prices.

Chris Reeve Shadow... If you can find one at a reasonable price.

Edit: LOL, we’re all on the same page.

Chris Reeve , why am I not surprised haha I knew it was going to be an ultra exclusive maker :) Nice . I was however looking for a more affordable option sub 200 if possible. I'll go look for the shadow see if I can find one under 500 lol

I have an explorer wilderness in 440 stainless steel. Bought in probably around 83 or 84. It sting has a good edge and sharpens easily enough. You can probably find one on flea bay.

You're better off using a small waterproof container and leaving it in your pocket. Would save some money.
Or just hanging a waterproof match case off of a lanyard on the knife, you'd have the same volume of storage.
A sheath pouch kit might even be best.

None of these better options have the cool factor that harkens back to the days of youth waiting to be like John J Rambo ( even if you were born later you still probably watched the movies with your dad and wanted to be like Rambo ) so I can understand wanting the hollow handle Rambo style knife.
I still think they're kind of cool even if I'm past that kind of stuff and won't be owning any such knives today besides the one I've got may be around somewhere.

i dont have pix but years ago i had maker here make me one, one of a kind really , it had functional saw back that works,
in the handle he uses a mini maglite flashlight and then made a cap to fit it . i will have to get pics , its been been fishing camping made with cpm3v . its a hoss

Hanging a match case survival kit off the lanyard on the knife itself? That wouldn’t be awkward at all. LoL

Yeah, I never liked the stuff in a hollow handle idea...
You lose your knife, you also lose your other survival items.
I also believe that a nice multi-tool is better for most survival scenarios than a fixed blade knife.

See there ya go . This what I was talking about . Something not hundreds of dollars with decent steel I can beat on . This one is lacking a kit though but I already have whatever I need to put in it . I just needed the search vernacular to find it I was looking for "survival kit knife " not hollow handle .

66 bucks with SAE-1070 carbon steel https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SC...vival-special-forces-combo-blade-nylon-sheath

I just watched a youtube vid on this knife and WOW that thing chops , batons , throws fero sparks , even fine shaving out of the box . AND it's one forged piece !! Pretty impressive for 66 bucks. I've never used 1070 before but I might give it a try . Even has a bit set on a 1/4" mast that fits into a 1/4' hole in the cap . Ill take that out and put a good firesteel in it , some braided line , fishing hooks , strike anywhere matches and probably some vaseline soaked cotton balls . Looks like a great knife. I can't believe its 1 forged piece until the cap for that kind of money .

i adorre the CR hollow handle knives.
but honestly why ruin your pocket
when you can brave almost everything
with this piece of kit, brought to you by
the folks who understand the requirements
of mega construction and roughing it out in
the great outdooors ? :)
