Is there any easy mods to do to a Vic can opener?

I have never in my life used a can opener on any of my Victorinox knives. Are there any simple mods that people have come up with to make this tool more useful to me? I was thinking that I might be able to turn it into a hook blade, but that is going to require a lot of cutting and filing.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

I am sure with just some simple filing and then sanding/sharpening it could become a semi-hook for gutting animals, but for me though I dont always use mine I like that idea of having one just in case.

Years ago, I saw a beat-up old SAK at a local fleamarket, that had the cutter part of the can opener ground down, and the tip was finished & polished into a very good little micro-screwdriver. It would reach into places the can opener couldn't: the problem I have with can-opener/screwdriver now, is that I can't get it into some of the little deep holes those small screws are in.

I can't think of anything else it could be mod'ed into.

The driver tip on can-openers is the most usefull SAK tool for me. I think Orca has the right idea of just making it slimmer to get into tight places. I do find though that the sharp blade of the can opener does a great job of preventing slippage on philips screws. I wouldn't want to give up too much of that.

I have used mine to open cans a VERY few times over the years. I mostly use the screwdriver tip, though. I have tried using the bottle opener to open those awful clamshell packages but I haven't found it to be very good at that.

If you bevel the inside straight edge it can be used as a "pull cutter". Good for a quick safe cut on string or ty-raps. And it will still open cans.

I use my can opener regularly. Both as a can opener and as a phillips. As a matter of fact, for general EDC purposes it is one of my must haves. I've never owned a Vic with a combo tool but that is a different thread.
