Hello all, does anyone know how to check whether this Chris Reeve Mountaineer is real?

Seller says he doesnt know what Model it is exactly, and he doesnt have any of the documentation or packaging anymore.

Would be glad for any help

I can't comment about the veracity of the ad or the seller, but the knife looks genuine enough.

It might be impossible to tell from those pics.

I'm no expert on Chris Reeve knives, but on their site they still sell sheaths for the Mountaineer line. They describe the Mountaineer 1 as having a 4" blade, and the Mountaineer 2 as having a 5.5" blade.

I believe that the Mountaineer model was produced in two variations, one in South Africa, and the other in the US. I believe the older South African version has a hexagon shaped pommel cap (blade marked "Made in South Africa"), and the newer US version a round cap (blade marked "Made in USA").

The South African ones were also numbered on the blades, but not the US ones.

Likewise, not an expert, but the earliest US made knives had hexagon pommel caps and numbers. I picked up a Shadow I made in USA with the hex pommel, sent pictures to CRK, and Anne Reeve was able to make positive ID, even tell me when it was made from the number on it. They discontinued it after a brief time, but there are some out there.

Yes, thank you all for the infos - Then it looks most like a Mountaineer I, right? Maybe the seller could get a birthcard reissued?
