Italian Traditional Knives!!

Johnny, those horn handles are exquisite! My favorite pattada of all the ones I've seen on BFC.

A wonderful knife, J-M!! The etching is incredible!! Please show us the blade!!
Are the "diamonds" mother of pearl? What is the name of this pattern??
'Nuff questions!! 😋
Hello Charlie ,

Yes the diamonds are in mother of pearl :)
I've no picture of the blade , unfortunately it's not mine. But, as it's not a damascus one, it's the same on this other knife

As we are enjoying a sunny and warm spring day I prepare a few italian knives with linseed oil.

They are very simple but I like them and find them more original than the Opinel .

While we wait for more expertise, do you know what distinguishes a Marrema from a Pattada?
I'm moving your question to this thread, where the real experts visit! As to your question, here are a few photos that you can look at for comparison.

My understanding is that Sardinian knives are typically friction folders, there is no backspring, but a piece of metal joining the two halves of the knife, which is called the archetto. 5-6 nails hold the horn in place to keep it from curling.

All of the Maremmano knives I have seen are slipjoints. As to the differences between the Pianella and the Foglia versions, I had thought it was mainly blade shape, but you can see both of these have different handles. I guess it is two different knives from the Maremma region?
