Yeah! Next week!! :) ;)

Congratulations, to all!! I forgot all about the drawing until just now.
Steve, Thank you for being such a great guy! :D

I wired the money to Ram today.

All of the prizes are boxed and labeled and will fly tomorrow.

Norm, when I went to pack up the BDC, the horn scales had shrunk, so I wicked some superglue into the gap. Then I ground down the metal of the tang to match the scales. Sanded and polished everything. It shines like a new penny. If you're not satisfied, it's guaranteed. :) Oh, and it's got a bit of an edge on it. ;) Be careful.

Raghorn, the AK is one big honkin blade. Good convex edge. Made by Kami with No Name. Beautiful butterlamp mark. I think you'll like it.

Ddean, Here is a description of the bolo from "Zelbone" on the EEWRS. He's a specialist in Philippine bolos.

"Nice tenegre/talibong you have there, Steve. Definately a fighting bolo. It looks pre-WWII, but I couldn't give you a more precise date. This looks like it could be from Negros since it doesn't quite fit the standard forms of Panay. The deity hilt is similar to the ones from Panay, but it also is quite different...a bit more absract. The mouth of the demon also lacks the double-set of fangs you normally would see on the demon hilts from Panay. The hilt looks like it was carved from Narra wood which is reddish in color...doesn't look like it's kamagong (Macassar Ebony) which would be more black. The scabbard also looks more Negros than Panay: the tapered toe, lack of leather at the throat, and the brass hanger. What I really like is that blade...long and slender! "

This has been fun guys. Thanks Again!

Dang Steve, thank you! Talk about going above and beyond! Just sending it in any old condition would have been fine, ESPECIALLY as you're generously paying shipping to give away your own knives!

I have several horn buttcaps in this condition and need to do just this service to them; they all seem to have an edge on them that needs to be ground down just a bit. AND you sharpened the blade as well! I owe you Steve, thanks again.

Regards,

Norm

P.S. You should buy some Lotto tickets soon or head over to Las Vegas; you have some _serious_ good karma coming your way! (-:

Where do I sign up?

hehe It's more than that. $1000 is what he lacked. And the answer is:

Riga, Latvia

Steve :)

Steve, the 14" BDC arrived well packaged today, and all I can say is you should be working for HI! The horn handle is now one of the nicest I own, and I wish I knew how you got it so beautifully polished. The tang and pins are blended in perfectly, the blade is very nicely sharpened, and the scabbard fits like a glove. Thanks for the raffle, for paying the shipping on the knife, and for doing all the first rate handwork on it to boot! SWEEEET!

(He says in his best Napoleon Dynamite voice! (-:)

Regards,

Norm

Glad you like it Norm. :)

Horn is easy to work with. I have a loose muslim buffing wheel on my grinder. I use "Scratchless Pink" buffing compound from Texas Knifemaker's supply, but red rouge should work too and is available everywhere. I buff it lightly just to show where the scratches are, then start sanding with 320 or 400 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper, depending on how deep the scratches are. Then proceed to 600, 800, 1000 grit. If you don't have a buffer, sand to 1500 then 2000. Although I've never tried it, you could probably put some red rouge on a long narrow cloth and "shoe shine style" buff the horn.

As others have said, the buffer is the most dangerous tool in the shop. It can grab a khuk and throw it like a missile. I put 3 layers of masking tape on the blade edge to protect me. Use light pressure and move the horn around as heavy pressure causes heat and can burn the horn.
