Ivory Knife

I need to find out the origins of a knife my father bought me, it consist of many patterns on the side and studs somewhat in the shape of a cross in the handle, if anybody knows anything about its design where it came from or even how old it is that would be very helpful.

It looks like a Taureg dagger from North Africa. The handle is bone, not ivory.

There is no way to tell short of a DNA test. Bone is a common handle material that continues to be used in cutlery, even on our own classic folders.

My bet's on it being Camel bone - I bought some carved camel bone jewelry from a South African who was trading at a Connecticut gun show.

He told me that Camel bone was used most often, due to availability and workability.
