Hey folks,

I'm new here. Sorry if I'm not going about the posting process properly, but I promise I am posting with the best of intentions in regards to doing it correctly.

That said... This knife has found it's way into my life. It is from Japan, it is sharp, heavy in the hand, and that's all I know.

If anyone can be of service, I'd really appreciate it. Or if anyone has any advice on where else I might inquire.

Thanks in advance,
Your pal,
John T. Woods

Excellent, thanks for the reply. I am in the process of using a microscope to properly decipher the logo on the blade of the knife. I'll post it when I get that done, perhaps it'll help identify the company.

I also got a response from someone, and a picture of my exact knife, from a different source. They have it described as a Japanese Gutting Deer/Hog knife.

Thanks again for chiming in, I really appreciate it. I'll post the logo image when I can get it taken well enough.

Ok, as promised, I added a better photo of the logo at the top of the Imgur link (https://imgur.com/a/jwPZE8w)

Couldn't use the microscope because I couldn't find it. I suspect my damn wiener kids took it somewhere and it's in one of their rooms.

But I managed with my phone and a magnifying glass. Let me know! And thanks again.

Thanks. It didn't occur to me before that the cutting edge is on the convex side, in which case I would agree that it is probably a knife for skinning/gutting. It is a bit unusual in profile but possible.
As for that "picture" thanks for the close up but still not able to determine exactly what it depicts.

I put another zoomed photo on there. https://imgur.com/a/jwPZE8w I wish the logo wasn't a bit faded like it is. Seems to be the kind of thing that'll be hard to determine unless one is familiar with the logo itself. Looks like a figure standing in some bushes, perhaps? The back of a woman, left arm outstretched? Hard to say. Thanks again for your thoughts on this, Ken.

itțs actually hard to determine with the logo faded, however I guess, here you can find real professionals who would say what it is

n2S gets the "bingo".
Japan made stained glass art knife. And that logo is a ??? even when it's legible.
I guess it a woman picking flowers. Maybe...lol
Pommel is slightly different but clearly same knife.

Every now and then not2sharp not2sharp is pretty sharp. :D :p

I would have never guessed a stained glass knife.

I admit my first guess was a mushroom or specialty harvesting knife of some sort.

Thanks again, everyone, for chiming in. This was a big help.

My Dad passed away a few years ago and so I am helping my Mom go through the garage.

He used to do stained glass work, and I brought the knife over to a neighbor. He's pretty old now, but I remember that he and my Dad would chat about stained glass work.

So when I discovered that this blade was for that kind of work, I took it to him, and he explained to me the point on the curve (which is very sharp) would be used to carve the soldering lead that was holding a piece of stained glass together so it could be replaced if it had been broken.
