Anyone played with the new Nomad Knife Jessie James came out with a few weeks ago. Looks pretty cool

I would be interested to know someone's take on it.

Sure, since you asked, I'll expand...

1) I'd take an AG Rusell Funny Folder over it in a heartbeat
2) I find the "celebrity from another field turned knifemaker" thing kind of insulting and demeaning to the actual knifemakers who have spend their whole lives learning their craft. Its like "Well, anybody can make a knife."

I'd be interested too. Don't know how much of a knife guy he is but I'd bet he knows his way around a machine shop.

It looks pretty uncomfortable but I'd love to hear from someone with the thing in hand.

Everybody has to start somewhere, marci.

Have you actually held one or is this opinion only. No disrespect intended. I am asking to see if it is a knife brand that I might be interested in pursuing.

Thanks

None taken.

No I have not held one for the reasons I mentioned above.

Now if I were a knife dealer, I might very well be interested. And I wouldn't care if anyone held one or not. The knives will sell based on Mr James' celebrity status only. The quality and design is irrelevant. Ask Bear Grylls. Ask Steve Austin.

IMO if it doesn't win over the "knife nuts" it won't sell that well for almost $400 USD.
It seems kinda gimmicky to me, but I do love interesting mechanisms.

Also I'm not sure it would be legal for me and the whole celebrity thing doesn't sit that well...jury is out right now on this one.

Looks like it would be VERY uncomfortable to use. :( Tacticool type design, but the price is out of line IMO. Take a look at what that money would buy from one of BF reputable, long term makers. It does, however, seem to have a certain kind of "panache". ;)

im glad he brought this design back. i had a friend with a smith and wesson knife with the same style opening mechanism but it was a peice of junk lol. James is a genius. i could care less if hes mostly known for one thing. people can be good at many things... ever heard of transferable skills? wouldn't buy one myself but would love to handle one.

It doesn't have to win the knife nuts. That's my point. In fact, it doesn't have to win anybody. I has already won the Jesse James nuts, and probably motorcycle nuts, just because his name is on it. That's the target. And they will buy it.

It the reason they put "Harley Davidson" or "Glock" or "Steve Austin" on knives.

(Or that skateboard guy from a while ago...I don't remember his name...)

I mean, I respect the marketing...it's smart.

I hate the disrespect it has for actual knifemakers. I would think anyone passionate about knives would think that being a "random TV celebrity" doesn't qualify one as a knifemaker!

He didn't. AG Russell has had the same design available for years.

And designing/making a motorcyle and designing/making a knife are tow different things. Calling them transferable skills belittles bothe motorcycle makers and knife makers.

I mean, if anybody can just "transfer" their skills from what they do over to motorcycle making...then what makes him a genius? Anybody can do what he does, right?

I get where you're coming from. But that will just be a one-off deal. I doubt his fans will keep buying future offerings at this price point.

This guy should stick to motorcycles. Funny I used to watch his show religiously when I was little. I even owned a couple of OCC shirts. But this ..this just makes me sad

Well they seem to be buying all the stuff in his line of firearms and kitchen knives.

Scagel knows what other random stuff he has slapped his name on.

fabrication and machine work... cnc... those are things used in multiple fields. he already made the knife so to answer your question, yes. you just dont like that hes able to do that... but thats not what the OP was asking. i just figured i give my opinion since others who havent handled the knife were giving theirs as well.
