Does anyone have experience with the Jet 248VS 2"X48" model 577842 ?
https://www.jettools.com/us/en/p/ib...ustrial-2-x-48-belt-and-9-disc-grinder/577842

I don't know how long ago it was introduced, but it is very difficult to find a review on this model.
It seems to have some great features for knife making, and blade grinding. Such as, the variable speed control and 1 HP motor.

I am just getting into this and have not yet purchased many knife making specific tools. I saw an opportunity to get one of these, like new, Jets at a great second hand price.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I looked at those before I got my 2x72.

I have a srg 1.5 coming from kadrmaskreations. https://kadrmaskreations.com/product/srg-1-5-2x72-belt-grinder-sander-frame-with-wheels-sale/

Using a 1500rpm motor for rn on my current frame that will be switched, no vfd yet, but I am using a 12 inch contact wheel I believe.

Might wanna get something that you can grind flat or hollow grinds on, unless the price is an issue, good luck!

It will get you started. It it has variable speed you will be able to do blades and handle material. Get ceramic belts for steel. If after 10 or 20 knives you feel like pursuing this on, you will want a dedicated 2x72 grinder. You can sell the 2x42 then. So if it's a good chance, I say got for it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, price is always a top issue. I went ahead and made the purchase a couple of days ago. Basically got it for half price.
The SRG looks sweet. Something to aspire to.

Thanks, good advice. Gotta get my feet wet with this one before I jump in too deep. I got a decent deal at near half price, so I figured if I still pursue this a year from now I could still resell it and step up to a 2 X 72.
I do like the variable speeds but have much to learn about when it is useful.

I was looking at the same model for general sharpening of Leatherworking knives... how have you liked it so far and have you found any solutions for angle guides/etc?
