Hi, I have a antler handled pen knife that is just stamped joseph on the base of the blade and some letters above which appears to be Now X but not sure. Could it be a very early Rodgers knife. Look forward to some info

It reads
NON XLL
JOSEPH
At the bottom of the blade
I'm struggling to attach photos, I have sent by email

You need a pic hosting site. Imgur is good and free. Upload your pics there, select your pic and click the box for "message boards and forums". Copy and paste that link here.

Hi, more info, I cleaned the bottom of the knife and exposed more letters. It now reads
NON XLL
JOSEPH Allen and sons
Look forward to hearing from you. Also does it have a value
Cheers Tony

I found this

"Founded in Sheffield in 1810 and as already said they were the leading hollowground straight razor manfr of the 19thC. In 1890 they had around 100 employees. The decline in the demand for razors in the early 1900's prompted a move into other forms of cutlery. Their trade marks included NON-XLL granted in 1838, 3415 granted in 1810, a pair of crossed fish, a sword and a man on horseback. The company was last listed in the Sheffield directories in 1959."

It sounds like you have a nice pre-WW1 folder from a prominent sheffield maker. Congrats!
