Up for grabs are two customs from Jürgen Schanz. They have both been carried and used minimally around the house, but nonetheless have accrued some snail trails. I have also stropped them both.
The DPPK2 has a laminated steel and titanium handle. This is a material that I haven’t seen used by other knife makers, probably because Jürgen’s friend is the guy who created it. The blade looks off center in some ways, but centred in others??? It never bothered me. However, at one point the pivot loosened and the blade started to rub. I tried to capture the rub marks in the pics.
I sent the knife back to Jürgen to have him tune it and he fixed the problem. The knife uses Teflon washers, so there is some side to side play if you really crank on it. This isn’t really a hard use knife, but I am trying to keep full disclosure. Deployment is smooth, and the blade is sharp.
The blade is a Damascus that Jürgen makes himself! And it is beautiful IMO.
I purchased this directly from True North Knives a few years ago, so I am the first and only owner.
**SOLD**
$650 CAD shipped within Canada (USA and overseas will cost more)
Next is a knife that I requisitioned directly from Jurgen. It is the DPPK2(3”) model. The titanium handles are anodized and blasted to look incredible IMO. There are some snail trails though. The blade is SB1, which is apparently similar to Böhler N690, and it is polished and shiny. It also has a crowned spine as a nice detail. Damascus lock bar stabilizer and insert.
This blade is also on Teflon washers, so there is some side to side play if you really wrench on it. I have also noticed a very minimal amount of up and down play. Jürgen is very easy to work with, so if this kind of thing bothers you, he will help you out no doubt. He is very accessible.
