I figure the blade as a whole should be quite tough due to the laminating, but will the vg-1 at the edge chip easily (like if you were to hit bone or rock, etc)? Anyone have any experience with hard using this knife?

I had a trailmaster in san mai and never had any chips in 10 years of chopping.

One small chip in a Pendleton hunter that was 100% my fault last summer when I whacked edge hard into a piece of hog-wire when slicing zip ties off of temporary goat pen. Smoothed out easily with a little work. I was using the wrong knife for that kind of work, IMO. CS VG-1 is excellent.
