I bought this for my Dad at Camp LeJeune PX in the late 1970's or maybe early 80's. It is not the issue 1209 used in Vietnam. But some sort of collectors knife.
It has a leather sheath with a gold colored EGA on it. The knife handle is wood with a brass USMC medallion inlaid. I am not sure what coating is on the blade, it looks parkerized but has shinny metal flake in it. It is unused with the factory edge still on it.
It is stamped KABAR, 1209 USA

I was wondering if anyone knew anymore about it and perhaps an approximate value.

Thanks for taking a look.

Sure you meant 1209. I was not aware that these were ever "issue" items. Always thought of them as PX items. Nice knife. Thanks for sharing it.

Good catch thanks, I have corrected it.

As for it being an issue knife that is the kind of information I am looking for.

I have seen other Kabar 1209 kinves from the Vietnam era and just assumed they were issued. Also the others I have seen did not have the imprinting on the sheath or the medallion in the handle.
The knife I have seems to be meant more of a collectors knife than a field knife.

Again thanks for the correction.

I can confirm that the 1209, (and 1207), was a popular PX/BX item at least as late as the mid 1970's. Your's is also the first one I've seen with the printing and medallion.
