I was wondering if Kabar ever tryed a rifle bayonet and If not was there reasons behind it ?

i know they tryed a pistol bayonet (my opinion it defeats the purpose) but it seems like a rifle bayone is right up there alley

they already had the contacts during ww2

KA-BAR has never made a bayonet (outside of the Pistol Bayonet). We occasionally have people tell us that KA-BAR actually stands for "Knife Attached, Browning Automatic Rifle", which is incorrect on a number of levels.

They did a field test in the 70's of these bayonets. They failed badly. Still we did develop the M9 bayonet and the Marine Corps. has the OKC3S. The OKC3S does share a close resemblance to an 8 inch blade fighting/utility knife.
The report on the field test is in the public domain. You can search for; United States Army Infantry Board Report No.3533 Test of Product Improved Knife- Bayonet. Feb1977.
