I was always intrigued by the knife whether or not its useful for me. I think as it looks like an augmented USMC knife, like a big brother literally.

Thought I would throw it out to the knife experts what they think of the knife in its class. Also what is the main class/role/function of a knife like this. And also how it is viewed? Respected blade or something you browse over before getting a Bk-9?

I have had one on my wish list for several years. It seems big and affordable, but I wonder if it is scaled up enough to handle a ton of abuse. I would look at the Becker if you wanted something more robust.

I still wanna get one, though. Looks like a pretty nasty combat/fighter.

In my opinion I’d say that this is more of a large combat knife and not for “hard outdoor use” like a BK9. There are videos out there on YouTube of people chopping and batonning with it, but with the thin tang it’s not going to be able to withstand as much abuse as a BK9.

I have both the Big Brother and the BK9.

While there is nothing really "wrong" with the Kabar, I MUCH prefer a full-width tang (which the Big Brother does not have - it has a stick-tang). I do like the serrations on the spine, however.

If I could only have one, I would go with the BK9.

The leather/coated version is a damned fine-lookin' knife. It's a shame Ka-Bar didn't draw-back the tang at the same height (*width?) as that of the Fighter or Tanto. Then, they mighta' had something.

I have one and it handles beautifully. Definitely made for “fighting” rather than “survival”.

Would have been very much at home with a marine during the Guadalcanal campaign.

Makes a great conversation piece for my small collection.
