Just received this very large folding knife as a gift from a fellow hunter friend...wow! I looked it up and researched what it was: "Ka-bar Mule"

Why didn't anyone tell me about this huge monster of a folding knife lol.

It reminds me somewhat of my other large 4.5-5" folders in terms of size and heft, particularly the CS gunsite, and Tops Magnum XL. But the handle thickness on this baby is nice and slim, not bulky like the tops or gunsite. It's probably even thinner than my old Emerson Super CQC7. G10 is nice and grippy, ambidextrous tip-up pocket clip, and secure lock-back with boyle in-dent.

I love my BM 610, but I'm really liking the Mule alot while I'm playing around with it. I might just buy a few more for myself and as gifts as well since it's super economical around $20-25.00, probably great for guys who work construction or remodelling; (abuse it, hards use it, lose it, etc)

Just wanted to know if you guys know about this knife, and whether or not it's reliable etc. Not many reviews online of it.

I got to hold one and I was impressed. More people should have these as big beaters because they are very solid for the price.

"Sonny",

Could you please let me know where I can get a Ka-bar Mule for $20.00 - $25.00.

I would like to get a couple.

Thanks.

I handled one in a local knife store a while back. Seemed really comfy, but the plastic handles and the fact that the shop only carried serrated models were deal-killers for me.

The G-10 ones are Chinese and use a lesser steel than the Taiwanese zytel handled AUS8 version.

Ronin,

I got it as a gift, so I didn't actually buy it myself at a particular store yet. But I liked it so much that I was researching it on google for the price and model. This was what I had found:

more FYI:
-3CR13 steel (Fine with me, I'm gonna abuse the crap out of this baby)

-Flat G10 Handle slabs (So versus the rubber/zytel model pictures, these handles are much slimmer overall...I'm guessing?)

-No Pouch! (I guess these g10 models with fairly deep clips don't have pouches...It's fine, I'll still clip it IWB like I do for the 610.)

-Made in China (At this price level, I really don't care...Hey, my Iphone was made in China too but designed in Cali...so is the new up and coming Iphone HD.)

Thanks for the info. I will check out the links. Really appreciate your effort.

KaBar has a new mule series.
The new series is made in China using Chinese steel, 8Cr13MoV, which is roughly the equivalent of AUS8.

I know that the original AUS8 versions that were made in Taiwan were well made. I have seen no feedback on the new Chinese ones.
