Hi all,

I'm wondering about Kalgard coating's performance against Black Ti coatings found on most tactical knives, ie; MTs and Emersons. How does it perform? I know Chris Reeve uses them on his one piece range but i don't own one so i wouldn't know. Can anyone spare me informations regarding it's performance on durability, rust prove capabilities and etc? Any answer is much appreciated and I thank you in advance

I had one of his knives years ago (should never have sold it) and the coating held up very well through some tough camping and utility work. The first time I ran into KalGuard was in its intended use, a friction reducing coating for the inside of high performance engines. This is not somekind of Slick-50 stuff. It is applied to the parts before the engine is assembled. I know several builders who swear by it.

It is not the fall that kills you. It is the realization that "yes, you did something that stupid."

Thanks bfm! Wow...engine applications? It should hold up quite a bit!.....

Hello,

Kalgaurd works great and is highly workable in the field, as long as its not applied over Hardchrome... 8)

Kalgard holds up very well in the CRK One Piece line. I think there are better finishes out there but, they tend to be harder to apply and more expensive.

I would give Walter Birdsong's Black T a slight edge in durability over Kalgard. Rust, resistance the same. Cost and maintanence (reapplication and delivery time issues) would favor Kalgard a little.

Having sold a CRK One Piece knife to a military pilot who spends a lot of time in Centeral and South America in the jungles and around around bodies of water in general, I was initially a little concerned about rust and blade maintanence. He has reported no problems in his usuage of the knife. I attribute that two things: Kalgard and the excellant heat treat CRK uses on that A-2.

Stay Sharp,
Sid
