Are they legit or not? I've seen them advertised like crazy, to the point that it feels like they are cashing in before they crash, and the commonly available sale price seems a little too steep to be true.

Rip off, I saw the commercials and googled them late last year.
Reports of lots of 5 star reviews being fake, and ridiculously high retail prices with so called discounts.
Basically Kohl's style, making you think you're getting a deal when you're not.

Rip off,
All marketing. Very aggressive marketing too, aimed at lay peoples.

Still a functional knife but not worth what there are pushing.

Found this thread and forum by Googling this exact question. Have been getting bombarded with Kamikoto in my Instagram feed and now through targeted ads on my laptop. Really annoying and I have never heard of them before. Coming from someone who has been to Japan many times and gone through the gamut of blades at Kappabashi I would remember if I had ever seen or heard of these guys.

The last straw was the $1,000 off the set supposedly valued at over $1,400. I'm sure it works like a charm on laypeople who will buy almost anything that looks cool. The worst part is because they will come very sharp people will leave outstanding reviews, then 6 months later when edges get dull it's too late to go back and change. Will the consumer knife industry ever change?

I'm not defending this company (I never even heard of them before), but they do sound like a ripoff company, and I have no interest in them.

However...don't ALL knives eventually need resharpening? If it takes them 6 months to get dull, that seems very reasonable as far as edge-holding goes, if someone is using them every day.
