Like the title says, anyone know of some good knife dealers in the K.C. Metro area? I'm familiar with Cabelas and Bass Pro but they carry a lot of pretty standard items. Just wondering if anyone carries a little higher end blades.

I'm in KC as well, and it is slim pickings. You named the big two, and I find the Cabelas at the Legends has the best selection. It's the only place I've found with ZT knives or the occasional Benchmade Gold Class. The staff is clueless, so they have a nice habit of mislabeling knives and you can occasionally score a deal if you have no scruples. I live in south KC, and I've found a couple nice deals on display models of higher end Spydercos and Benchmades at Scheels (135th & Metcalf). I haven't found any store in KC that sells anything more exotic than that however. If anyone knows of any better stores, I'd love to hear suggestions.

If you want to handle anything higher end your best bet is to take a day-trip to GP Knives (~15 min east of St. Louis).

Odyssey Martial arts in Independence Mo was the place I used to hit. I'm sure that they still have a decent selection of knives.

I forgot to add Mickey's Surplus. I've seen some decent used knives there for a reasonable price.

If you wanted to make a day trip we're about 4 hours east of KC. Everything on the website is available to see in the store and I don't believe you'll find a better selection in the midwest.

If you are by Crown Center, Ambrosi Cutlery has a few personal knives as well as a good selection of pro-chef knives. They have odd hours and sometimes will alter prices. Odessey Martial Arts has larger selection, but prices are high. Try the gun shows up by the airport. There are about 3-5 people with higher end knives that go.

GPKNives is great, I always stop there when driving across country. I waited a year to hand pick my Sebenza there and another year for my Eros. They are a few minutes off I70 and are also on the Chicago to NOLA route. My Eros is serial number 1911 :)

Over the years I have bought MANY fine customs at that show.....there are many 'hidden in plain sight' amongst all of the goodies on display. I've bought some very rare pieces at 'give away prices' from Dealers that usually don't deal in custom knives and don't have any idea what they actually have.... ;)

Yes, I sleep well at night. :)

Been there too. :) Some knife collectors spurn gun shows, but not me. I fell in love with the ACTF at a gun show in Reno.

The last time I was at Bass Pro Shop in Independence they had some decent Benchmades and Spydercos. Also check the gunshop out on Truman road by the powerstation for some good discontinued Benchmades. I forgot the name at the moment though I go there frequently lol.
