Would the Kelty Redwing 50 be suitable/ comfortable for longer distance backpacking? I pack fairly lightly and it could hold all of my gear easily. The reason i'm asking this question, is that it seems to be designed more along the lines of a large day pack, rather than a hiking backpack. It does have an internal frame and suspension system, but will it's design cause me to suffer if i'm hiking all day with a 30ish pound load? I've handled it in a sporting goods store and I like the way it feels, and I like the way it looks different from more traditional packs. It also seems that I could get more versatile use out of it than a dedicated backpacking pack, but my main intended purpose is 2-5 day trips with lots of walking. I'd love to hear from anyone who has one, or hear other pack suggestions.

I've done plenty of three day trips with mine. Daily distances range from three to eight miles. My load is probably more like 40 pounds. I have bad shoulders and get a little fatigue on the longer distances, but its not a problem.

Kelty Redwing 50 is absolutely fine for a 5 day trip.
It is a great alround pack at a very good price
I cannot understand why both Kelty themselves and REI calls a 50 liter pack, a daypack

What it holds depends on how you pack .........
You can stretch the bag
Tie on your sleeping bag on the bottom straps of the bag
And your tent and poles can be chinched on the side straps

If it holds your gear as you say, you're good to go...as long as it does so comfortably. I think a 50liter pack is great for 5 days.

Sounds good my main concern was whether or not it is as comfortable to carry as a traditional pack, but i think you guys cleared it up.

I have the Kelty meduim size
The torso of the pack is long for a 50 liter pack, so the hip belt sits very comfortably on my hips
Altogether a comfortable ride even when loaded
