hi, im new here. i just purchase a ken onion spring assist. i am a little weary of using it hard because as a long time automatic owner i have found that the springs break with some prolonged use. so, any one with the ken onion blackout 1550 please tell me the durability of this knifes spring.

Kershaw tests there torsion bars to 10000 openings. Use it hard, use it everyday. If the torsion bar does break on you ( and it does happen on occasion ) it has a life time warranty. Between me and my son we have over a dozen AO Kershaws......I've had to replace only one torsion bar. If by chance you do break one, you can shoot Kershaw CS an email and they'll either send you one you can very easily replace yourself are send it in and they'll do it for you. There ( Kershaws ) CS is top notch and second to none as many others here will attest to.

I carried one for a year using it probably 20 times a day plus just playing around with it and it hasnt broke yet.

thank you very much.

Hey, no problem at all. Just get back to us after you've had it a while and let us know how it's treating you. It really is a great knife. I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Oh..and welcome to the forums!! :)

Didn't Thomas mention that the 1550 was the number 1 seller for Kershaw?

Now that you mention it, I do believe you're right. I'm to lazy to go back trough the threads to make sure, but it seems like I remember reading that.

ian1001: Use It! The Blackout was my first Kershaw when they first came out. Used it extensively with no problems. Still have it and will not part with it. Excellent knife.

i have had two torsion bars go bad on me. they would clunk when the knife was closed randomly. and the sometimes they would do it after the knife was opened. i figured why waste more time and moved on to other knife manufactures.

Did you contact Kershaw to get replacement bars? They will send you some free of charge and they are very easy to replace.

Don't give up that easy on things in life ! You will rob yourself of years of enjoyment of not only great knife experiences , but of all things. Kershaw is and always will be number one, Try again.

The Blackout was my first Kershaw as well. I have completely lost track of the number of times I have flipped it open and closed. The Blackout is still going strong and still has a cherished position in my collection.

You know, I did that. I gave up on Kershaw for awhile cuz of broken torsion bars. You know what I learned. I just wasted a lot of time without my favorite knife maker in my life. They replace the torsion bars free of charge and they're also making manual flippers now without torsion assistance but that still open in that same manner. Just give it a thought.

I have one and have used it a lot for about a year and a half. Still works very well. Its in my pocket as I type. Funny thing, I got my nephew one for Xmas two years ago. When we opened gifts, I found that he had gotten me one as well. We were both quite happy with our gifts.

thanks guys. also how many time have you had to tighten the torx blade screw?

If it does need adjustment, just put a dab of blue locktite on it, set it where you want it, let it sit over night. You won't have to touch it again....unless you just feel like taking the knife apart for cleaning.
