This thread is directed to those people who have tried both the original Work Sharp and the Ken Onion model.

Was about to pull the trigger on the Ken Onion one, but PreparedMind101 had an interesting comparison with the older model:

Now I'm not sure which one to get. Supposedly the immovable angle guide on the older model, and the greater availability of aftermarket belts, makes the original model a better choice for some.

To those who have tried both models, did the features of the Ken Onion model justify the higher price? At almost double price of the original model, I'd hope for significant improvements in user experience, reliability, versatility, etc.

Thanks for your time.

I agree. Get the KO. I own the original and used it to good effect. But when the KO was being developed, I was fortunate to be one of the product testers---it was immediately apparent this was a whole new critter. The variable speed and wider, heavier belts are a huge improvement.

The fellow in the video seems to mainly have a problem with the KO angle guide. I recommend not using the angle guide. Instead, freehand---and use sharpie on the edge. That will "guide" you much better, IMO.
