I was looking into buying a blem Leek to be my new user knife at work, as the one I bought in composite d2 blackwash is just too pretty for me to use anywhere except when Im out to eat at a restaurant in nice clothes. Part of the reason I bougt the leek, knowingly with its fragile, needlelike tip, is that Kershaw states if I broke the blade, and it wasnt under warranty, they would replace the blade of the knife for something like ten dollars. I was wondering, even though the blems arent covered under warranty, would their blade replacement service still apply to a blem should I snap the tip off my leek and be willing to pay the ten dollars to have it replaced?

I also heard they will send you a new torsion bar/screws should the speedassist fail, wether for a blem or not. Are these rumors also true?

Thanks guys. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I don't know about blade replacement on Blems, but for your 2nd question, if you go to Kershaw's Contact page, about 1/2 way down click on "Warranty Service/Parts", and fill out the form, they will send you the parts you need, no 'screening' for Blems. :)

Edit to add: This may answer your 'blem' question... from Kershaw's FAQ page...

Accidents happen. If you accidentally broke your Kershaw folding knife's blade, we have good news. We can replace your knife's blade for you, returning it to good working order for just $10. Simply send your knife in according to warranty instructions. We'll replace the blade for you and return it to you. Please note that we cannot replace fixed blade knives. Knives with XXXX on their blades are factory seconds and are not eligible for repair or replacement. We cannot replace blades for discontinued knives or limited-edition knives. Also note that replacement blades may or may not have the laser blade etching; in other words, a replacement blade may be entirely blank. Nevertheless, it is a genuine Kershaw blade. Kershaw blades that have broken due to a manufacturing defect will be replaced under warranty, free of charge, as always.

Thank you so much for your response. I must have read over that part when I glanced at their FAQ. So it may be wiser for me to spend the extra 20$ or so on a non blem model in order to be eligible to take part in their warranty replacement service should I snap the tip on a leek in the midst of working. The blem I was looking at would run me about forty bucks. Shipping and cost of a blade replacement on a new factory standard model is around 20$. At that rate, I may as well buy another composite Leek to be my user for around 75-80$ and have it under warranty.

Alas, There really is no reason I should be concerned with breaking a knife blade, but I do tend to take shortcuts and misuse my knives in a work environment on occassion when under pressure or time constraints. So for me this is a real concern.

I really wish the Kershaw Random Leek was still in production. The stronger tip on the Random Leek seems like it would eliminate all concerns I have of the fragile standard leek tip.

Hey Afflicted,

As far as I know they will not replace a blade on a blem. I live about 20 minutes away from Kershaw and outside of sharpening they will not work on a blem. At what it would cost you I would just buy a new one or wait for one to pop up in the exchange.
