Hello folks,

wanted to hear your opinions on that. I am searching for a new edc working knife.

Can not decide between these two knives. I once had a Kershaw Blur in 14C28N which I lost. I liked everything about it but the edge retention was not at the level of my likes. Maybe the heat treatment was not optimal or I do not like this steel in particular.

I also had a BM griptilian, but with the standard drop point blade, which was too thick behind the edge for my taste.

To be fair, I wanted to pick up the 550, but theb there is this thing about the Bailout what gives me Struggles . But I also owned a 710 and a Non Confirmist, great knives...

Which one would you choose?

Thanks,
Oliver

I've had more than one griptilian but no matter how hard I tried I just didn't like them as much as other knives in my collection, so they had to go.

As for the blur I have the black coated version and I love it! I would like to maybe look at getting one in s30v or even cpm-154 down the road though.

If your left handed it’s no contest. Griptilian all the way. Also, easier to close and it gives up very little in deployment speed. Plus the Axis lock is much better than the liner lock on the Blur. If you decide on the Blur, don’t worry, it’s a great knife too.

Both are great. Both companies do the steel right. I give the nod to the Grip, but I'm a big Axis lock guy.

Don't struggle over "that thing about the Bailout".

Ive owned both. I preferred the blade grind on the blur over the grip. But i love the axis lock. Assisted opening draws alot of attention nowadays. If i could have a grip with the s30v blade i think it might be perfect, for me at least lol

That's pretty much a Ritter Grip almost!

Definitely something about the grind on the grip that leaves much to be desired. The Blur is probably the only assisted knife that I actually like. In one of the better steels it's a really great work knife.

I love the ergonomics of the Kershaw Blur but, I don't care for the selection of handle materials. Give me a non-assisted backlock Blur with G-10 scales.

I guess I have to vote for the Benchmade.

I voted for the Blur, but only because I’m not a fan of shespsfoot blades. I’d take a regular grip in 154 or s30 over both tho for an edc.

The blade grind on the S30V blur is noticeably thicker behind the edge than the regular versions. In case you were expecting the same blade as your other blur except in S30V.
I prefer the blades in the regular blurs better because of this.

I voted griptilian, have a couple and they are great, get much more pocket time than my blurs.

Hey Folks,

thank you very much for your input.

I went with the Benchmade 551 sand.
Fit and Finish is perfect, I love it.

I love the Blur so much but my sharpening system does not love recurve blades. There arean't enough recurves out there that I want for me to invest in specialized media to sharpen them with, so now I just avoid them. I would recommend one to a friend with a sharpmaker who was less OCD about sharpening though. Overall I'm going Grip for the axis lock and better treated steel.

EDC'ed a BM 943 for years (on its 3rd S30V blade) and am just a fan of the Axis lock. Tried a Spydie PM2, numerous Liner and Frame locks, but keep coming back to the Axis lock.
