Has anyone ever sent a knife to Kershaw to have the blade fixed after a bad chip or bend?

I sent my Blur in about 2-3 years ago (broken tip) and when it came back the blade looks different. Obviously I expected it to be different as the blade was damaged, but it looks like they re-ground the blade instead of replacing it. It was a very small chip so I can't be sure, but the blade does seem "blunter" (is that a word?) at the tip.

Every other time the blade was replaced, but that was 1) a bad bend at the tip of a Scallion, and 2) another Scallion that I ground the tip off of on a Worksharp before I knew what I was doing.

Will upload a picture when I can.

New blades are like $20-30 I forget exactly. Otherwise they will grind it out on a belt for free under warranty.

New blades get xxxx marked on them and no serial number.

I had the tip broken off of my Kershaw Skyline a few years back. Sent it in and they reprofiled the blade to a new tip, so it's got a more forward belly. They did it all for free if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure the two Scallions were $10 each and the blades were replaced. But on one at least, the blade had become too short to engage the safety. The other was bent about 1/4" from the tip (at about a 45 degree angle) so that may have been considered warranty.

I wish I had called and asked them right after I got it back. I emailed them but will probably get a "WTF?" type response - and it would be hard to blame them really.

So the new blade is considered a “blem” and has no warranty? Definitely not worth the $10(for Keyshawn) or $30 (for ZT) replacement cost. Sort of a “we’ll fix it once” policy than a lifetime guarantee. Plus you have no idea what kind of steel they replaced your blade with (420HC). I hope this isn’t true!?!

I think your over reacting they put the steel designation on it. I'm not sure about warranty at that point. I don't think the knife itself is treated as a blem per say. I mean they probably keep the info on file what happened.

I cant complain about them. I have been sent parts before to fix up knives, and pocket clips and whatever I needed basically. My wife carries a Kershaw and bent the blade, so we sent it in and paid $10 and got a new blade. Then after the lock finally failed on her knife, she got a brand new one under warranty with a specific clip we asked for. Kershaw has great customer service people too, I really cant complain. Theyre up there with Benchmade in my mind.
When she got her new knife it was kind of shocking to see just how worn out her old one had been. The new one is really nice and is the current production model, not the older version my wife had. Very nice.
You cant expect a brand new knife every time you send something in, thats taking advantage of them. If you pay them the $10 though, they should replace the blade. If you dont pay them, then they should fix it however they can, by grinding or whatever.

I've heard Kai warranty is some of the best in the business. I recently got a ZT 0770cf and a few days after the carbon fiber around the stop pin started chipping and the pin was loose. It's on its way to ZT to see what can be done about it, and I have no doubt they'll take care of me.

I really like the 0770cf, and even have the natrix CF and just got a Bareknuckle as well. It's a great looking knife, feels great in hand, and carries well. All iterations. So I'm missing the 0770, can't wait to get it back!

Nope. It isn't.

1) All blades are from factory runs, not one-off China-stamps.. If your original was S30V, your replacement will be also, if it was 440C, your replacement will be also, etc., etc..
2) I sent a used/new to me ZT 200 in for blade replacement. I would have to check to see if it is "XXXX" marked. ZTs are serial numbered, and I am not sure if the SNs are related to completed knives, or blade units. It would make sense for them to be for completed knives, with, say, 300 XXXX blades made as replacement part stock.

I thought the XXXX mark was to indicate blemishes. Not performance or material quality blemishes, but just visual blemishes.

I've got a Damascus Kershaw Skyline that came from the factory with XXXX etched onto the clip side of the blade, and it was sold that way, it wasn't sent in for repair or anything.

I think I read factory 2nds have xxxx on the blade, but replaced blades have no markings. I may be wrong.

I've only had a blade replaced by them once. And in addition they replaced the screws and the pocket clip. I was definitely pleased with the service. Just give them a little time.
