Was thinking about getting a Leek soon. I like the Sandvik but also noticed the composite models with the CPM-D2. Not sure which to get, I've been wanting to try D2 but I'm perfectly happy with the Sandvik. The composite version also looks really cool...

I went with the S30V version, of course I bought it a number of years ago...

I really like my CB Leek. The D2 does hold its edge longer for my EDC use (compared to my Skyline w/ Sandvik steel). I've read some stuff regarding corrosion/rust issues with D2, but I haven't experienced problems with mine. The D2 is a bit more difficult to sharpen, especially by hand on Arkansas and water stones. If you have diamond stones or some powered systems, then you should be fine.

The S30V/G10 version obviously uses a different steel, but it's also a liner lock instead of frame lock, if that makes a difference. I've got both, and I prefer the feel of the frame lock version.

I've got the D2 leek. The D2 does hold an edge. I just touch it up every week on the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup and then strop it to keep it sharp. I don't have any corrosion problems with it either. Although it is going to be replaced with my new Cryo as EDC for a bit...until something else comes along.

My buddies always ask me to sharpen their knives(sog trident and aegis). I got sick of it. So they said here you go one night when we were out to dinner, and I proceeded to flip over a cup and sharpen them! Should have seen the look on their faces! They said WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! I said relax handed it back and it was way better than it was before, but of coarse not the greatest. They quit asking me so much now!

Remember that CPM-D2 is a different animal than D2. IMO it is better in many ways. Kershaw does a great job with both the CPM-D2 and the S30V so either one will be a winner. Just get both!

My leek with sandvik is my letter opener. Just using a kitchen steel it stays ridiculously sharp. I've used it on a number of boxes and tons of letters so far. I am impressed. I'm thinking of getting the S30V one for the G10 though...

The Sandvik is great all around stuff, but the added toughness and edge retention of the CPM-D2 is really nice.

I hear you. It took me awhile to get the knack for it, but now it sharpens nicely. The first time I showed it slicing paper to my buddy at work and told him I sharpened it with a coffee cup and an old belt, he kind of gave me a blank stare... LOL.

I love my CB Leek and have always like D2 steel. I'm able to maintain my leek with a leather strop and some green compound. Just touch it up while watching TV and it's good to go.

I agree, the cb is awesomely sharp! Plus it looks cool with the two different steels. I would like to one day frankenleek it to a different handle.
