Im looking for a new knife for work. I’ve had a plain edge leek before and loved it but gave it away. I decided to get another one, I work in a warehouse and will be mainly cutting plastic straps and breaking down boxes. Is it worth getting the serrated edge just for cutting plastic straps or stick with plain edge? I’ve never had kershaw scallop serrations and don't know how well they perform

Personally?
I'd get a cheaper serrated for the plastic & a smooth for the Leek.

My son had an ancient Kershaw Lever Lock with half serrations - but- since that was way back twenty years ago, who can say if they still compare?

I do love serrations for stuff like foam - straps - seat belt fabric & other nasty stuff.
Aside from that - anyone that cares to can step in front of me in the "I love serrations" line.

Get the plain edge. The Leek is slicy enough for stuff like foam, straps, seat belt fabric & such without needing serrations to handle it.

If you want a serrated blade, do like H Hal says above... get a little Vic serrated blade for that and keep the Leek for the rest of the day.

Or get a Spyderco. Those boys know serrations.

I love serrations for use on tough fibrous flexible stuff .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I hate sharpening them . Especially Cold Steel type . :(

I've got a CRKT M21 Kit Carson Veff type coming just to see if that's easier to sharpen . ;)

I prefer plain edge.
I like my Leeks way too much to beat them up at work. Plus, the Leek's tip is too fragile, in my experience.

My company gets Gerber:poop:.

Thanks everyone! Ended up ordering an all black plain edge
I just got mine yesterday! Plain - black blade.
Nice little knife.
I like the flipper on it better than the stud.
I also ordered a Scallion - as a fill in just to get free shipping.

I'm sort of torn between the two!
Time will tell...

I love the Scallion. I've had many, given most to folks who needed a knife and now I'm down to one.

I bought it off the Snap-On guy's truck. You want to talk about overpaying for a knife...:rolleyes: He's a good kid though. Needs the biz.

No need to be torn between the two.... keep both in your rotation, you'll find both very useful and quite capable.

1. As you are familiar with the Kershaw line, try a plain blade 3655 with a 3.5 inch blade. It will cost you under $25 most places on line.
2. I don't work in a warehouse. before shtf, I prefer a plain blade. Serrated blades get hung up for me.
3. I distinguish before shtf from after shtf. I want more options after shtf.
Have you ever been cut by a serrated blade? I have. Opening a government box. I held up my hand to the doctor and he asked me what to do. I said it serrated and all he could do was clean and bandage. He would not be able to stitch it up. This is why I have two plain edge Spyderco Police models next to the computer and a couple of serrated Police models for shtf. P.S. I had a military instructor who stood to close to the line when people were deploying serrated blades. He still had the scar and mentioned that it could not be sewn up.
