Can anyone answer why Kershaw/Kai Discontinued the Rainbow Leek #1660VIB Great looking pocket knife?
Knife has speed-safe technology with designs by Ken Onion custom knife maker. Titanium coated and a beautiful knife.
Kershaw/Kai still making other Leek knives but why was this knife knife discontinued? Thanks

I can only say why I don't have one, the increase of price and the worry of the color wearing off if I used it. I think they're gorgeous but I can't find much information on the longevity of the rainbow anodizing (I believe it's anodized) under EDC use conditions. It's probably sat on a wish list for 3 years but I've never thought it was worth the cost and risk of the rainbow wearing away.

Truthfully, I've really wanted the rainbow shallot but I considered getting all of them (shallot, leek, chive) if I were to get one.

The same reason most things get discontinued. They arent great sellers. The leek was and still is a huge success. Rainbow finishes? Not so much. Its a finish generally associated with cheap junk knives. The leek is an amazing knife, vut that color is a hard sell.

The rainbow has been around for a long time. Everyone who wanted one probably has owned one or two so the sales aren't what they were so it got phased out.

No big deal.

I think the rainbow series was a far bigger success than it aught to have been haha.

I have a Chive. The finish is durable but maybe a bit to fancy for most EDC tastes.

My wife loves the rainbow Kershaws. She has the Chive, Scallion, Leek, and Groove (the Groove actually straddles her collection and my collection). I would love to acquire a rainbow Shallot as well.

I have one, love it and it gets some EDC but by no stretch hard use. Finish looks just like when I first bought it.
